What's with the lack of Android phones in the UK?

I know most Desire owners on this forum are based in the UK, so are you as sick as I am about the lack of good Android handsets?

Droid X? No, we don't get that.
Evo 4G? No, we don't get that.

Hell, the Nexus one only recently arrived in the UK!

What is going on?

I've seen loads of Android phones in the UK but it could be that they plug the adverts about a million times.

Isn't the Wildfire out now? Evo 4G would be nice but I think I'm happy with the Desire for now.. personally I couldn't afford to keep switching phones so maybe it's a good thing there's nothing better for now

OP, they run on a different network that is not used in uk or europe. Maybe the droid x will appear as the milestone x sometime?

I used a Milestone and a Dext/Cliq briefly and my opinion on Motorola hasn't changed. Why would anyone want to use one? Motoblur is a criminal addition to android.
Saying there is a lack of good Android handsets is a bit unfair. We still have the Nexus, Desire, Galaxy S and even with (currently) older versions of Android you could include the X10 and the Dell streak. That is still 5 high spec phones.
As for the Evo 4, yeah it's sad we don't get it and its probably the only Android phone that is a loss over here.

For something that hasn't been around that long, Android is really picking up steam in this country.
Mileston, Galaxy Portal/Spica, LG GW620, Wildfire, X10 Mini, X10 Mini-Pro, Pulse Mini, Legend, Tattoo, then the older handsets, Hero, Dream (G1) and Pulse.

Thats 17 off the top of my head, and I guessing I missed some. More and more high end phones will be coming.

Anyway, apart from the HTC Desire and possibly the Galaxy S, there haven't been any 'signature' phones. In the USA, they have Droid Incredible, Droid X, EVO 4G, and Aria. And they're getting the galaxy S (albeit under 4 different names) and the desire anyway.

android is definately picking up steam, and whilst im incredibly happy with my desire, im disappointed that we won't be getting the evo 4G.... looks immense...

I'm not usually one for rumours in the tech world, but the HTC Hero, Desire and Legend rumours were very accurate

We might get it... just without the 4G

Seeing UK has slower broadband speeds both mobile and landline, I doubt any network will upgrade to 4G.

By that time, the US will have a 1440x900 4.5" phone with built in dolby

I hear you and I agree, I'm just saying that your average run of the mill user probably won't even know the difference between 600mhz and 1ghz, they might even think the first is faster!

well, i can tell the difference between the htc wildfire and my desire.

Haha no, 720p at 4.3" is like 340ppi. I can't see the pixels on the iPhone 4 at 326ppi so any higher is silly ^_^

720p at 4.3" would be really nice though
