Apps Turn on flash LED? (droid)

I know there is finally 1 app in the store that is able to turn the flash on to use as a flashlight but I'm curious how to do it programatically. The furtherst I was able to get is to have a loop of Camera.autoFocus(), but aside from having the camera constantly in an autofocus squeal dance, the flash goes on and off instead of just staying on.
any help would be appreciated.

Yes, a link for this would be greatly appreciated. I'd rather not spend a dollar on a app I could develop myself.
