Official 2.2 update impressions thread!

So I thought to help the madness on the others threads that we could make one with all of the pros and cons we have seen in the new official update to help people see what they should do as far as force it or root and etc.

Pros: More polished and faster
Flash capable
much faster browser
apps to sd
camera software i much better with a few new features like exposure ( might have already been there lol)
5 screens

Cons: Flash is not included so you have to find it in dumb ways and it is not in the market
No more vibrate and silent modes being seperate ugh!

As mentioned many many times, Flash is made by Adobe... so anyone thinking it would be included was just deluding themselves... in short, this alone can't be counted as a con... Windows doesn't include it, IPhone doesn't even run it ... its has always been a seperate download for every OS that I'm aware of.

The market side of this... could go either way since Flash is still in beta but I suspect it will show up eventually

That, plus the file is still the Beta 3 release - not a final release, IIRC

No deluding. It clearly states in the official pdf that it INCLUDES flash beta now available in the market and its not so that is a con

Flash was included in the recent froyo update for my HTC Desire, no need to download it (and it is not visible in the market for us too, Desire users).

Just noticed that there is no longer a separate silent...what's up with that? So now when I put it to silent it will always vibrate?

I know someone said there's not 3D launcher, but do you buys still have the same tab to pull up the app drawer? And does the scrolling feel different? On the N1 2.2 made the home screen scrolling much smoother.

The N1 also has a much faster and more powerful processor....

I run Pete's BB 0.4 at 1200 Mhz, and I gurantee you that hte scrolling is superfast.

At stock speeds, tough it is going to lag a bit behind the N1.

Couple of little things about 2.2 that I thought were strange.

What happened to the "Places" app that seemed to just be added a week or two ago?

My media dock is hooked up through my computer, i use it to charge the phone. The new USB Mass Storage screen that come up everytime I put it in the dock is starting to get annoying.

Otherwise I'm really happy with the update.

I am guessing you'd need root access for that, but a simple sensors app in the market may work.

USB Mass Storage - is that on ypour computer? If so, is it showing you a drive letter automatically and asking you what you want to do?

If not, well, then the notificaiton is going to happen b/c your drivers may have been updated automatically (4.6.5 is hte latest, IIRC). Also, check to see if your SDCard is set to automount.

But the messaging app sucks now! I hate the white background and the pictures on every message.

As soon as it is rooted, we can metaMorph themes, and apps as well. Hold tight.

I honestly thought that was going ot happen, but haven't seen it yet. I beta 2.2.1 / 2.2u1 will allow us to, or else a rooted version using a MetaMorph app replacement.

On the phone, a little android guy pops up with a usb arm, whole screen is filled telling me i connected my phone to the pc and gives me a button to turn on usb storage. I have to press back to see the normal multimedia dock screen. I don't see an automount SD card option anywhere.

Ugh, that silent/vibrate setting change is going to annoy me. Sometimes I want vibrate only, say if I am watching a movie/show here at the house and I don't want it loud interrupting me or the girlfriend.

But if its an important call I like to be able to feel the vibrate and ignore/accept at will. Guess this means I pretty much never use vibrate any more. =/
