Google Android sales overtake iPhone sales in US

yea but that article means nothing. There comparing EVERY SINGLE phone that has android to one iphone.

lol.......have we all forgot about WinMo phones? Its in the same boat as Android: OS on a variety of phones, on multiple carriers.

How come if Android is making strides, the multiple phones, multiple carriers comments come up.....but WinMo is in the exact same boat. Last I checked WinMo phones were behind the iPhone.

Unless I'm missing something here...

that's exactly what i was thinking. if there's more people using android then theoretically there should be more ppl developing apps for android phones.

Not necessarily.

The profit margin for iOS is higher. Also, iOS consumers tend to spend more money on their apps.

You also have to factor in other iOS devices. Last time I checked, iPod touch sells a lot more than iPhones.

Furthermore, with iOS, you already know your set hardware parameters. It is much easier to develop for.

However, I like to add..

The opportunities for Android OS is better (un-tapped market). That is why I am developing for Android instead of iOS.

Well, we can make the case that they should. After all, Steve Jobs used the last Nielsen figures to make the case for why developers should only program for iPhone.

One of the problem is many developers I know that work for big publishing houses will not develop for Android until Google cleans up the blatant copyright infringement. I know Disney developers who pointed out to me all the non-sanctioned Disney apps on the marketplace. They (Google) may not have an app-approval process, but they need to get rid of all the 50 cent ring-tones and Twilight wallpapers. That will be first step in courting quality developers to the platform. The marketplace is more of a "bazaar" than a marketplace.

jobs is a moron who should be left alone to rot in an island by himself with a windows comp (WITH WINDOWS ME)
He is for sure. Antennagate proved that.

Jobs: Lets act like little school girls and bash other phones for having the same problem as ours.
PR/Market guys: Yeah LOLZ let's do it! (add other phones to Antennagate site with false info)

The world: Apple, you lie. The other phones don't have those problems and we proved it.

Apple: Cry. (Remove other phones from Antennagate webpage)

Apple's app store is too controlled. Google's isn't controlled enough. There should be a happy medium, but that's very hard to do. I'd rather have it open.

i mean you don't have to have big publishing house apps. there are a lot of great apps that in the apple app store made by individual developers. personally i could care less about disney and other big huge companies making apps b/c i think they have the ability to run smaller developers out of business in a sense.

google still needs to get rid of the crap. They are learning on the job...making an OS that appeals to commercial developers involves much more than writing a lot of code. It is interesting that android has much more developer support than Blackberry even though BB has so much marketshare.

well honestly now, look at BB's main customer base. the phone is marketed towards the business community. of course you have non-business people using it. but i think that's just bc most business ppl just don't care about all the apps. they just wanna send emails and talk. and BB is great for that. but yes i do agree that google does need to get rid of all the junk app (which there seems to be a good number of).

Of course they care about apps. Look at how many business apps are for Windows. And they have $$$ so they can buy them.

Now going back to the original topic...Verizon is the #1 reason why Android is so popular in the US. For many people, Verizon and Sprint are the only carriers that can cover them so iPhone isn't even an option. Next you have people that AT&T can cover but they just prefer verizon's superior service.
On top of all that, Verizon doesn't play to be nice. They play to win. Everyone knows about Drrroid.

i'm with AT&T now. i just recently got the captivate and i have generally no complaints about the phone itself. but AT&T are a**wipes who added a crap ton of bloatware to it which loads up everytime you restart the phone (about 15 of 'em or so). i would've loved to switch to verizon had not been for me being on a family plan. but worldwide where nearly EVERYONE uses a gsm phone, popular and amazing phones, like the droid x for example, needs to available in gsm (not sure if that's already happening tho).

I don't get what your point is but ok. The fact/point is that android phones better while be outselling iphones. that'd be a damn shame if you have one phone outselling 15 phones combined.

The article's headline is equivalent: "Toyota cars outsell the Honda Accord."

Which is why I mentioned WinMo phones....and the iPhone outselling WinMo phones.

U gotta give Android credit to be making strides like this in this short amount of time. Now that I think about it..Android had to have dipped into the WinMo marketshare....lol Again...amazing to be doing that in this short amount of time...

Go Android....I still might check out a Win 7 phone tho, just to see whats up.
