god damn this headphone jack totally cuts out with the slightest movements. i can have it in my cargo pocket and take a few steps and my music totally cuts out, what the shiat! anyone else have this prob and doesnt this phone have a 1 yr warranty, i want a new one b/c i use my mp3 player all the time

Dude I have had the same issues and had teh same issue with my old Blackberry Curve. I really don't think these phones are made to be used as a day to day MP3 player, and the hardware reflects it.

I learned with my Curve, paying the extra couple dollars a month for the insurance has paid off. Every time my headphone jack starts acting up, I take it back to Verizon, and they always give me a new warranty replacement. Since last Nov, when I got the phone I am currently on the 3rd and getting ready to take it back since the headphone jack on this one is starting to act up

Calm down there hoss. Yes, the phone does have a year warranty if you have bought it within the last year. Call Verizon, or go into a store, and tell them the problem. They will order you a replacement. Thats it. No big deal. You can breathe now.

First make sure that its the 3.5mm socket of the phone and not the plug of the (ear/head)phone. If its the phone and you can't get it replaced, Then try getting a pair of A2DP supported Bluetooth headphones. There are also clip type BT adapters that allow you to plug in your own headset. But be warned that battery time of your phone will have a significant impact when streaming over BT. You'll also be limited by the battery life of the BT headset.

Always used my Curve for music on a daily basis. If my smartphone cannot handle the rigors of being a music player, I'd take it back.

I am sure this may be an isolated issue though.
I had issues with the headphone jack on my Curve and on my droid, which is why I pay for the extended warranty. I just go get a new phone every 3-6 months when the headphone jack starts to wear out.

It's not. It's a known design flaw.

Seriously guys, try a search first. There are hundreds of posts about this issue all over these forums.

I have gone through 5 droids do to this issue.. sadly i am stuck on my broken droid since i have tiny (yes i mean tiny) crack on the side of the glass of the screen and verizon won't address the issue of the headphone jack -- even though i have had to have 5 other refirb phones.. kind of makes me angry but other than the headphones, this is a quality phone -- OC'd to 1.25Ghz and never crashed once :)

my best advice would be to get either Bluetooth headphones, keep taking it back -- yes it is under a 1 yr warrenty which does cover this issue -- as long as there aren't other problems with the phone.

I've had this problem since day 1. The left channel on my headphones doesn't work unless I forcibly push the plug into the jack. One I release it, I only get sound on the right channel. However, this seems to only occur with certain sets of headphones. My computer headphones, which have a slightly larger, more robust male end, work just fine with my Droid. Both channels work and no matter how much I move it around, there's no loss of signal. I know it's a design flaw, but for me it seems to only happen with certain shapes and sizes of headphone plugs.

***FOUND A FIX FOR THIS*****

I've been having this same problem with my Euro version - The Milestone.

Went to motorola support who advised me to send it to the repair centre and go through all the inconvenience of not having a phone for a couple of weeks.

So, just before I stuck it in a jiffy bag to send it off I used a bit of initiative...

I sprayed a bit of WD40 into the 3.5 jack, and worked the headphones in and out and around for 5-10 minutes to make sure all the connectors got a good coat of the magic lube. :)

Works perfectly now - no crackling, no music cutting off, even when I'm tugging on the headphones and therfore... No need to repair. Can't believe this hasn't been tried before in all the threads I've read of the issue.

Might be worth giving this a try before you send it off, seems to work on the milestone variety of the phone just peachy.

Same experience here. In my car, jacked into my stereo, I only get sound out of the left channel. My computer headphones seem to work fine.

That's interesting. Seems like it would make it prone to the plug slipping out easier. Let us know if it continues to work several days later.

I'm not sure if this is a serious post or one of those "oh man I sprayed some WD40 on myself accidentally and I turned into a superhero cause WD40 is AWESOME" kind of posts. It sounds too good to be true! :p

With the greatest of respect mate, you make me out to sound like a dumbass... why would I bother searching out a thread I read a week or so ago just to write up some total crap.

Try it, don't try it. I don't care... just trying to help out those that have the same problem as me and cba with the hassle of sending the phone back.

Clearly the contacts inside the jack aren't springing back properly, just thought I'd try some lube before sending it back, and so far so good.

How do you know if something works or not unless you try it? And why do you even have an opinion on something you clearly know nothing about?

WD40 superhero. Lol, muppet.
