Problem with Opera mini

Hi !
I ve purchased an MID with Android 2.1 and just installed Opera mini from the martket.

This does not seem to work. When I click on the Opera icon, it is launching opera but I cannot see any url bar nor content : just a blank screen. After a while it says "unable to connect. Please review your network settings" .

I am connected to my private wireless routeur via wifi, and the default browser works perfectly ... any idea where does this come from ?

thanks in advance for any help !!!:)

Don't use Opera Mini. It's not any better than the stock browser. From what I understand it used to be an improvement over the stock browser pre-android 1.6, but that's no longer the case. If you're looking for something that's an improvement over the stock android browser, try xScope, Steel, or Dolphin Browser.

that personal opinion. i think opera is better than dolphin, stock etc.

Thx for your reply

in fact I am installing Opera because i have a problem with Flash.

I have developped an application in Openlaszlo producing flash and cannot launch it with my MID : i see a blank screen with a blue lego brick in the middle which i believe is due to the fact it cannot read flash.

Since Android 2.1 cannot use Flash player 10.1, is there any other alternative ? (I thought using Opera mini would be one but cannot install it properly)
I tried to install flash lite 4 but apparently it can be installed only on HTC...

is there any way to read flash on Android 2.1 ?

for instance i cannot see this site properly : FLO
(on the left side there is a flash menu that i don t see)

i am desperately trying to find a solution to that so any help would be much appreciated !! ;)

Is this the first time you tried Opera Mini on this device? Opera Mini usually requires a cellular connection the first time it's run. After that, it will use WiFi.

I'm sorry I can't help with your problem, OP, but I just wanted to say that I, too, prefer Opera Mini over every other browser. I was using Dolphin HD but OMG that browser was so slooooooow. It was so slow I went back to the stock browser while searching for a new browser (the stock browser is also slow, but not nearly as slow as Dolphin was for me). When I installed and tried Opera Mini I almost fell over from shock at how fast it is and I wanted to slap myself for not having it installed on my phone from day one, lol.

While Dolphin is cool in that it has a ton of addons you can use with it, I much prefer a browser that runs almost as fast as my PC browser because there's nothing worse than trying to look something up on the net only to forget what it was you were looking up because the pages take so long to load. I'll gladly sacrifice all the bells and whistles some of the browsers on the market have for good ole' Opera Mini.

Opera Mini did receive an update a few weeks back that added a cool new toolbar though. I love Opera Mini the way it is now and I'll never stop using it. I'd LOVE to try out the new Opera Mobile Web Browser, but at 6MB pre-install I don't have enough room for it on my phone (running 2.1 so I don't have Apps2SD) :(

i prefer opera mini except 2 things about it.

-50% of the time i click a link (like the word "Applications" in this forum), it loads for a sec or two then stops loading. i have to long press and select "open in new tab" to get the page to load.

-mcdonalds and starbucks require accepting terms before using their free wifi. those pages dont load in opera mini. i have to open it up in the native browser to click the "accept" button then use opera mini.

other than that its great lol

My Opera mini suddenly stopped working. The following fix worked for me:

1. I deleted some wifi finder, analyzing, mapping, etc. apps I had downloaded and run, suspecting that perhaps they had interfered with Opera's wifi connection ability.
2. I uninstalled then reinstalled Opera mini. (I also uninstalled and left uninstalled Opera mobile, but I suspect that was not a factor).

Hope that helps.

Cheers,

JS
