Anyone Thinking of Switching to Droid X

What do you think? The reviews for each phone are pretty much equal.....

I seriously considered both before I bought the EVO (switched from iPhone 3G). In the end, I just like the look/feel of the EVO better, so that was the difference for me.

No way! The EVO is awesome and you simply cannot beat Sprints plans.

Hell no. Only reason I can see wanting to switch would be the FPS issue but I'm rooted and avg 54fps so it isn't an issue here.

I looked at a Droid X at Best Buy. Now granted it wasn't powered on, but that phone is ridiculously ugly. Aesthetics wise it gets a big FAIL.

The only reason to switch would be a carrier change. If you really want Verizon then switch. If you are happy with sprint then there is no point in switching.

I wouldn't switch from Sprint or the Evo for the Droid X, but i was actually surprised at how it really looked/felt compared to the pics i've seen and my expectations. I have 2 friends with them, and they absolutely love 'em. Only thing i can really knock the X for is the lack of FF cam, being on VZW's outrageous pricing plans is a different story though. Battery life seems to be about the same as my Evo (pre 2.2), which my friend says his gets roughly 13hrs with task killer enabled.

I also wasn't crazy about the cheap feel of the hardware buttons, but that's cause i'm now used to the Evo. Overall, my short experience with the X was surprising (in a good way) to say the least. Wasn't as big and bulky as pics/reviews have led me to believe anyways...

Just to reiterate, that phone is really ugly. The only reason to consider it is if you are on Verizon already. If you are already on Sprint, there is no reason to leave, unless you like ugly phones and spending more money every month.

I have the Evo, my husband has the Droid X. IMO the X doesn't even compare to the Evo. I hate the feeling of it in my hand and I agree with another poster that it does feel like an old scientific calculator. The "ridge" on the back of the X where the camera is is just weird. My Evo is so much faster than his X, I am able to run on 4g, but even on 3g it's faster. And ofcourse I have the simply everything plan which is a lot less expensive than his Verizon plan, with limited minutes. Just my opinion

they have been selling video chat (online) for years now and it's still not that huge.

You obviously dont travel much. I loved the short period that Fring worked with Skype and my girlfriend loved it more. When you have to spend any time away seeing someone's face makes a world of difference. Heck, even my parents and grandparents are into it since we all live hundreds of miles apart.

I agree with most of that being in the military it will be nice when stuck over seas to do video chat always nice to see faces while gone for a while? Other than long distances and certain circumstances i dont see it taking off for day to day use with friends and family near by.

Thats my big hangup with the EVO...they pushed and pushed the whole "video chat" thing. Which worked awesome for about 3 weeks when fring had skype on there. Noone else I know has an EVO, so they dont have qik.

I hope you are right about the video chat thing...

With the Sprint vs Verizon pricing, the Evo is a no brainer. There's nothing about the X that makes up for the gap in monthly fees.

If the X were also a Sprint phone, I'd stick with the Evo because I love the capacitive buttons, I like Sense over Motoblur, and yes, the X is homely as all get out. I would hate to have to stare at such ugliness all day.

If the X were on Sprint it would have a FFC, so that wouldn't be a factor.

While I don't see it being an everyday thing, I do see it becoming more popular. Just the same way phones like the Evo are popular now. 5 years ago I bet you couldn't find a female to lug around a phone as big as the Evo, but now its more common to see. More phone will become compatible with Fring and more people will use it. Evo to Iphone video calls are possible now with fring.

I prefer the form factor of the evo, I prefer sense over Motorola's widgets, the evo isn't as locked down as the X and sprints plan's and pricing are better then Verizons. The upsides to the X are Verizon's coverage and (if you are a gamer) the better GPU on the X.

And to continue the OT topic... I don't see video callling taking off, there are a few situations where people use it (military/extended work in a remote locale is a good example) but video calling has been available in europe for years and it hasn't taken off there. People are moving toward texting and away from calling so I can't see how video calling is really going to be a big hit.

Yep it has crossed my mind after this mornings battery draining in 5 hours fiasco. Then it took almost 5 hours to charge the God dam thing. This phone is wonderful on paper but it just does not work right all the time.

The Droid X is an ugly phone. The only thing I like about it is its 8gb internal memory.

Despite my sig, I actually like the X. I did that because of all the Droid X fantrolls and trolletes that were plaguing this section. In being honest I would probably not leave Verizon and the Droid X any more than I would leave Sprint and the Evo. Well maybe a little more because the fake Blur they put on their is pretty whack. The whole phone felt cheap in my hands. It's really fast though, but from what I've read, it's typical motorola with the phone freezing up all the time,. low speaker, dull screen (all things I had on my Cliq XT).

I played with one in a store right next to my EVO and there was no comparison, the EVO looked and felt better. I couldn't get the X to acceptable brightness on the screen even on full bright it's dull. I don't know how anyone could say the X has a better screen, it's pretty dull and shaded to me. I loaded web pages there in the Verizon store and my EVO loaded them faster both on 3g.

It's great on paper, but the user experience for me was bland. Even though it's fast, it's mechanical and not engaging like Sense on the Evo. I'm also close enough to 4g to use it on a regular basis and use video chat.

So IMO the X does some trivial things a TINY bit faster than the Evo, but the EVO does things the X will never do and is more user friendly to me. I don't need anything faster than the Evo, it's more than fast enough, especially when we are talking about milliseconds changing and app or page. And the EVO is less money every month.

Droid X is great, just not great for me.
