Verizon was bad enough but at least I knew going in that I would have My Verizon. I am getting real sick of UNREMOVEABLE crap ware or features, some just showing up on my phone.

One day it's Kindle, now it's Places. I keep waking up to new junk or built in ahem...features that I don't want and can't remove. Let see - this is what I can't remove so far:

Amazon MP3 - Don't play music on phone, don't need it
Blockbuster - Same - have a 55" TV for that
City ID - What useless junk and they actually want you to pay
Corporate Directory - - Ain't a corporation, don't need two contact lists
Kindle - Want me to read a book on a phone, send me a battery
Latitude - Ah - Not No, hell no
Places - - At least I can remove Yelp
Skpe Don't care - give me front camera I might be interested
Social networking- Antisocial Mom taught me to mind my own business !

Yeah I know I can root but I don't want to be an Android guru. I just want to use the phone to make calls and use the Apps that I want vs what Google or Verizon thinks is the greatest thing since milk.

Jeez - people complain about Jobs having to much control with Apple, this isn't that much different.

I feel better but I hope Google and Verizon can YOU HEAR ME NOW. Let us remove this useless junk.

Rooting really is simple, it's just a few steps, and you get control over your phone. I'd say the carriers are far worse than Google. They just try to pile on their own rubbish because they want a presence on the phone, and want the user to notice them. Google at least makes apps that are useful, and you don't have to pay for most (all?) of them.

But yeah, I agree, I hate carrier customisation. Not only does it delay things like froyo for their customers, it's usually rushed and full of bugs, and generally worthless in the first place.

its part of buying a carrier based phone........ you get what they give you........ or you can root and make it your own phone......... I still havent convinced Chevy to sell me a truck without an ashtray that I have no use for....... and my tv has all kinds of channels that I would really rather wish didnt exist....... fortunately there are ways to remedy things you dont want........ in this case its root

hmm what's the point of getting a smartphone if you're not going to play music, watch movies read books and all kinds of other things?

Bundling is a way to get more developers interested in android. It circumvents many of the problems of the app market so they have a better incentive to bring more apps.
