True but I was just trying to point out that Android is gaining new customers while Apple is renewing existing customers at a rate of 75%. New Android phones come out as many as two or more a month. Apple releases a new phone every year or so which ends up being mostly renews. It's not hard to do the math at that rate. Right?

Android is offered on many different make phones and on many different carriers.

It would be like bragging All vehicles sold by toyota, mazda, gmc, and kia finally overtake the honda accord.

The OP is horrendously misleading and is insinuating something that is flatly incorrect.

Or, it would be like Jobs bragging iphone got to the second highest smartphone market share in the US after only 8 months from launching the first iphone?
YouTube - iPhone Usage Statistics
Yep, that's Jobs comparing the iphone to RIM - not one smartphone, but all smartphones.

If Jobs wants to brag about iphone marketshare compared to all smartphones, who are you to say it's horrendously misleading and insinuating something that is flatly incorrect?

As far as I know that 75% was true for first weekend buyers or something like that. I wouldn't necessarily say that's the going rate. I'm also really tired of this damn topic. Let iPhone users use iPhones. Let us use Android. Let BlackBerry users use Blackberry. Do we really need to keep convincing each other that Android is the best while bitching about Apple?

Irrelevant. This was then, this is now. When the iPhone was released, RIM WAS the only smartphone choice for most people. Taking some of their marketshare and stomping out the smaller markets, the iPhone release was a big deal at the time.

And let's face it, if Android was released at that time and got 2nd place, you'd be bragging about it too.

Palm OS and WinMO were also smartphone choices when iphone was released.

......Its really convenient that ppl keep forgetting about WinMo phones when bringing up the "many different makes of phones and on many different carriers argument."

So it was fine that the iPhone was outselling WinMo....which had "many different makes of phones and on many different carriers"...

Smartphone numbers are in: iPhone sales exceed Windows Mobile sales for first time -- Engadget

Notice thats from 2008...I'm pretty sure the iPhone was beating out WinMo in 2009 too...

But when Android gains momentum, its cuz "many different makes of phones and on many different carriers"...

Expected, and not newsworthy.

How is it expected? What if the majority of ppl that tried Android phones and HATED them, thought they were absolute GARBAGE? It wouldnt be expected then, would it?

Ppl.....give Android credit where credit is due....

Palm OS andWinMO were also smartphone choices when iphone was released.

THANK U. Thats my whole point. Ppl cant keep using the "many different makes of phones and on many different carriers" argument when the iPhone propelled past those 2 mentioned. I dont know about Palm, but WinMo phones were everywhere.

Who am I to point out that the OP is incorrect and misleading? I'm certainly not steve jobs, thats who.

Are you honestly trying to make the argument that "well of he did it, then we can do it"? You may subscribe to the two wrongs make a right ideology, but I do not. Steve jobs is an arrogant buffoon who doesn't matter to me and I couldnt care less what he says, AND that still doesnt change the fact that the OP is misleading and insinuating something that is incorrect.

Is this erroneous analogy the Apple party line? Or is this your alter ego. The comparison of vehicles to the Honda Accord is being bandied about as the definitive comparison buster when Android sales are compared to the iPhone.

A more apt analogy can be found here:

I remember when everything was called a Palm Pilot. Then WinMo came along with the full power of Microsoft and even Palm decided to use their OS.
So now we have android from a company that has zero OS experience, no itunes or ipod equivalent, still has many issues to work out in the market, yet it manages to beat both Apple and Microsoft.

Ha, I remember the PDA days, the Handspring. Then the supersleek Palm. Then when the Palm phone came out, woah its a pda AND a phone? To think back then it was so hi-tech.

I also hadnt thought that Google has no OS experience. That is extrodinary they can compete so effectively.

That Android is being compared to the iphone? How is that not a fair comparison? Are you telling me Android phones aren't competing for the same customers that iphone is competing for?

Its not a fair or accurate comparison because ios isnt offered on multiple devices and networks. Its like comparing the sales of one model of a vehicle made by honda to ALL vehicle sales made by toyota, mazda, and kia combined.

Its almost a cartoonishly inaccurate comparison.

What common tech does Toyota, Mazda, and Kia use that Honda does not?

For those who dont bother to read the replies before responding:
