Do yall think this will sell out like the evo did? I ask because my wife could not wait on a phone and she liked the intercept so I got it for her but I am hoping the epic will come out before her 30 days is up so I can get her a better phone.

No, and the reason I think is because everyone who was in the market for an uber high-end android phone on Sprint, bought into the HTC EVO.

Those folks now have to wait another year until they can upgrade again. There are of course the stragglers who recently got their EVOs and can still return them and trade for the Epic, however I dont think that number will be high enough to cause a shortage in Epics.

Plus you have all those silly fuddy-duddys out there who think Samsung will not support their products (even though it is obvious they do) and will shy away from the Epic. Hey, that leaves all the more Epic awesomness for us!

I am sure they will support the high end phone but I am not sure about the intercept. Its a cute phone add and all but it is slow as hell. The response on the screen has such lag. I feel like I have to beat the hell out of it in order to get it to respond. Lol

My fiance's sister has an Intercept and its very responsive from what I've seen. But the screen size is laughable.

ive heard samsung is having a hard time producing the SAMOLED screens so we might not see a lot of inventory. id still preorder the phone just to be safe.

I really hope not I fell into temptation when my Moment died last week in a fatal bathtub incident and I went out and got a Evo to hold me until the time came. I wonder if RS will give me much trouble at the time I need to make an Exchange?

I am assuming Samsung is manufacturing their own screens (SAMOLED) for the galaxy S line so *fingers crossed* this could be good news for everyone waiting to get their hands on the epic come launch day!

Samsung also makes the dreaded AMOLED screens for phones such as the Droid Incredible, and they've been in VERY short supply. But again at launch I doubt this phone will sell out on day one after the Evo's recent launch so expect to see more phones. Hopefully I'll get this Evo exchanged without too many problems.

Good point. I wouldn't put it past Samsung as a company, to prioritize their efforts and resources to hone in on their flagship devices and leave the others out in the cold. Unfortunately

The Evo isn't a bad device persay but it's more along the lines of being screwed by HTC one too many times.

This is the 3rd HTC phone I've owned that could have potentially been great instead of just good and was crippled by the manufacturer. The 30fps cap the bad camera firmware and stubbornness of HTC to admit when they've made a boo-boo over the years just turns me off.

Like I said the Evo isn't a bad phone, could it be MUCH better? Heck yeah, it wouldn't even be that hard if HTC's software dept had a clue and only capped the HDMI port instead of completely crippling the phone, then they stick to some bullshit excuse that it's a hard cap and we would never be able to uncap it, just a few days after that statement it was un-capped, it's just bad the way they handle their software.

I've always said it HTC is a great hardware company with a terrible software dept, the hardware shines but when the hardware is driven by software it never reaches it's full potential. That would perfectly describe HTC phones, and not just recently I'm talking all the way back to the early days of WinMo as well.

EDIT: Guys don't forget to tune into the Engadget show tonight, starts in less than 10 mins and it's rumored that a release date will be announced.

The Epic4g might or might not sell out the day it arrives, but I'll bet there WILL be a bit of a crunch come October 10th. It's one thing to say 'screw it' and burn $200 extra to get a new phone at the 6-month point. It's another matter entirely when the cheap update anniversary is less than 2 months away. The *danger* (to everyone planning to buy at the first discounted opportunity in October) is that Sprint might hold off on Epic4G orders until they see how well they sell at launch and do during their first week, and not have batch #2 ready to fly off the shelves when Mass Upgrade Day arrives.

It makes me extra thankful I was able to metaphorically cut in line and get my Hero a day early. If it really does come down to a shortage, being able to skip ahead of everyone with an October 11th upgrade date and get mine on October 10th might end up making the difference between having a very, very happy birthday that weekend, and being pissed & miserable because my new phone is indefinitely backordered.
