Help Why wouldn't 2.2 download for droid 1 not work on droid x?

I am not sure to the exact answer to my question. Is it because the moto widgets are difference from the droid 1?

We have almost the same phone. So why wouldn't 2.2 for droid 1 work? There has to be a better explanation than, it just doesn't. I can't understand what could be so different...

All these reasons are just the tip of the iceberg. Really, thats like saying why can't a puzzle piece fit in every slot, it's just not the same.

Kinda, but each update is catered to the phone it will inhabit.


Just as this Moto Blur is different from the origional Moto Blur.

It's device drivers, features, etc...

Unlike the Linux one finds on computers, the micro and mini versions of Linux-based OS's one finds on phones are not going to have every device driver for every phone on them, nor are they going to have every feature for every phone on them either. The idea is to make the OS as small as possible to save storage space, and as efficient as possible to save battery and processor load.

ericnail already said it. The firmware is catered for each phone. The Droid doesn't have 720p HD video recording capabilities. The Droid X's UI is actually unique from other Android devices. It's like a mix of Blur and non-Blur. These are just the obvious basics. You still have to take into account the different processor speeds and other hardware capabilities or limitations. I can go on, but it's really unnecessary. The phones and their hardware are different, so the actual software needed to run both of them is going to be different.

The software is up to par with each other and are the same versions, but it's released for different phones. The exact iOS4 firmware file for an iPhone4 will not work on an iPhone 3GS. That version of firmware isn't even released for the iPhone 1, (original) so a software file doesn't even exist for it. A firmware file for a Linksys WRT610N wireless router will not work for a WRT54GS. These devices are similar to their correspondents, but their hardware has different requirements. Each device's software is customized to serve the purposes of the device.

how about the Droid X has a locked boot loader so it won't boot anything that is not made by motorola specifically for the X?
