How do you get an Eris out of safe mode? My wife left her phone outside and it got a little wet. I dried it off and pulled the battery to make sure it didn't get wet. Put it all back together and rebooted. Now the phone is stuck in safe mode. No downloaded apps are showing, Lookout will not open in App Manager, Pandora won't work, and I'm sure I'm missing some more. Thanks in advance.

In the lower left hand corner of the screen, it says "Safe Mode".

Wow, never heard of "safe mode" either! But a Google search of "site:androidforums.com safe mode" results in a few threads (sometimes referencing other phones, though) you might want to check out (I have no experience with them, but maybe they'll help you):

Good luck!

Ok, did a little more diggin and found this: Enable / disable safe mode - HTC DROID Eris ADR6200

I can't get my phone to go into safe mode using those instructions though. I am rooted but I'm not running a custom rom.

Back to the wife's phone. I think she got some water down in the trackball and that's why even rebooting and battery pull is not working to get it out of safe mode. I'm gonna try to clean it out with some alcohol or flux remover and see if I can fix it that way. If not, I'm going to try a factory reset and if that doesn't work, she's taking a trip to Verizon and paying the deductible to get a new phone!! Can't trust that woman with a phone around wet stuff!!

Sounds like you are already on the right track - the phone is going into safe mode when you boot it because it thinks that the trackball button is depressed... even though it is not.

Sigh. That trackball is the Achilles heel of the Eris.

Yeah, a few weeks ago i knocked my phone off of a dresser and it landed in the sink, i started freaking out but i grabbed the phone out and took it apart as soon as i could (took the battery out) and tried to dry off the parts, well later i turned my phone on to see if it still worked, yes it worked just its in safe mode, and i didnt think it to be a big deal sence maybe 2 or three times before it had been in safe mode and all i did was take out the battery then the problem would fix but when i tried that this time it didnt change at all, so i left the battery out for hours and still nothing, ive had my phone stuck in safe mode for about 5 weeks and i dont want to tell my parents because i dont want them to get mad so im trying to fix it myself so i looked up all of the " taking the battery out...blah blah...reboot....or call *228 ... etc" nothing worked, and sence i rebooted my phone its completely wiped out i have no contacts or anything and its still in safe mode and i dont know what to do with it, would i be able to ask for a new one?....does anyone know how to get it out and had my same problem?.. please help me i dont want to be in trouble....

My phone has booted into safe mode before and it's never been wet, so it is possible for this to happen without environmental factors. (Luckily a reboot always fixed it for me) If the water damage sticker doesn't show any signs of damage, I'd call Verizon and see if you can get a "new" one. I've also heard that putting the phone in uncooked rice will suck any moisture out of it, so that may be worth a shot too.

The Eris trackball is notorious for going wiggy with no warning, causing screen scroll issues, etc. Replacement of the device, if cleaning does not remedy things, has been the most common option.

Even then, two or more replacements sometimes are needed. It seems to be a design flaw that afflicts some and not others.

I'd not keep a device that needed to be reset for an issue such as that, more than once or twice.

I've been pretty lucky with my eris. The only real problem I've ever had with it is indeed the trackball, but not the common one. It rarely, if ever, scrolls down when I want it to. Sometimes it will work briefly after the paper cleaning trick, but it quickly goes back to no response after that. I'm looking to upgrade, but as of right now I'm kind of waiting on an announcement for the Incredible HD.
