Accessories Help Buying a Car Mount

I just bought a 2005 infiniti g35 with no aux port, and here is what you do:

1) ISIMPLE - better than FM transmitter, though there is a transmitter version. 180$ full installed
iSimple - Apple® iPod® Direct Connect Kit for Select Vehicles (Basic Install Included) - ISIM71

2)Car mount (windshield) - fits the evo 4g without blocking any functionality. Gives you ability to rotate and use AR apps like WIKITUDE DRIVE which was suppose to be out in July but I guess its coming out in August. Either way, vent mounts SUCK. I had one in my Jeep, it blocks the air, cant be rotated, and you have to worry about breaking one of the prongs every time you pull out your phone.

Alternative for a mount:

Amazon.com: Kensington Windshield /Vent Car Mount with Quick Release Cradle for iPhone/iPod Touch: Electronics

Just got mine Monday and it works perfectly. Very good build quality as well. Does NOT work with cases though (even the Sprint silicone), but not a big deal for me.

Comes with a dash and windshield mount and does rotate landscape>portrait.

I use the Scoshe version, I got it from wal-mart but here is the Amazon link Amazon.com: Scosche Universal Windshield and Vent Mount iPod/iPhone/Nano/Cell Phone Holder (Black): Electronics

This one will fit, naked, Innocase II ( style) and if you squeeze it in even the rugged case fits. Rotates, and can mount to some vents...

Yeah, I looked at those, but prefer the cleaner look of the Kensington "clamps".

Yeah I like that style compared to the kind where you squeeze the clamps together, but this one I could take home right away ( and I suffer from no-patience-itis) and the windshield mount was much, much better than my last one that broke!

YMMV !!

To clarify on the IPOD kit, it comes with both an AUX input AND an ipod direct connect. I have the aux kit coming from a compartment at the top next to the windshield (so I can mount the EVO and plug it in; cord remains hidden when not in use) and the IPOD cord coming in the glovebox. This kit allows you to control both, and if you do connect an IPOD you can control it through the HU.

I recommended this rather than a new HU because many cars these days come with good HU installed, for instance, mine came with a 6 cd changer. Why would I remove that and install a PoS Sony? Depends on what you have already; a 2008 I would think you would want to keep the stock HU and add the connection, but if yours is pretty basic the cheaper more efficient option would be to replace the HU.

EDIT* - Also, the mount I posted is a hard neck mount, which wont wobble and shake when you drive. I just bought a goose neck which, while flexible, is basically a shaky piece of shit that I'm going to give to my mom because it bounces around too much. To each his own, just trying to help save some frustration.

Not sure why you think a 6 CD changer is better than a "pos Sony". Who the hell uses CD's these days? That's just bad advice.

If thats the case, why do Sony HUs still come with CD slots? Seriously, think before you speak.

CDs will sound much louder than any phone/ipod plugged in through wires, try it yourself. Newer doesn't necessarily mean better so much as more convenient. Again, to each his own, but you haven't lost anything keeping the stock HU vs installing an aftermarket, and if you have then your aftermarket costed well over $180.00.

More and more people are using iPods or other DAP's plugged into an auxiliary/usb port than CD's nowadays. Maybe you don't get out much.

You don't know anything about audio, much less car audio. I suggest doing some research before you make claims like this.

AVSforums would be a good start.

why buy cheap universal stuff when you can get it custom fitted for the camry?

easy location to run wires down the right side. cheapest way to get decent sound quality is to go with an inline fm adapter. takes all the static out since there is no signal loss or station interference. Not as good as a true aux in if your head unit can do it, but it's a 1/3 the cost. Here's pics of my innocased Evo in ProClip's adjustable mount. Much nicer than any universal setup and you can use the adjustable mount for any new phone you might get after the Evo.

And for the genius with the CD talk. You rip your tunes in a lossless format and you have CD quality. Not all ripped or downloaded music is in a compressed format.

okay guys sorry for the late response. I ve been busy buying the car ugh drama. Anyways, I said to the sales man to install bluetooth and so he did. Works like a charm, however, now its time for the air vent mount. Im thinking the 5 dollar vent mount on ebay. But before I buy it, I heard that Frys and Best Buy have an Air Vent mount for less than 15 bucks, so I am going tomorrow. Thank you to everyone who contributed this post. Much Love from yours only Evo Fan.

does the "clip" part of the car mount, the part that holds the phone in place by the volume rocker, touch the rocker at all? or is it positioned far enough in the middle of the phone where it doesn't touch the volume rocker at all? i know a few of the car mounts out there have a similar build, but the clip is pinned down on the volume rocker, making it go haywire. thanks in advance!

This one doesn't come close to the volume rocker.

I love it and use it daily. It won't hold an Evo with the Sprint silicone case though.
