VZW not replacing DIncs...

I just got off the phone with VZW - I was calling to see if they could give me anything concrete on when I could see an improvement in call quality.. if that little evrc-b programming thing is safe, etc.

Here is what I was told, in parts, from a tier 2 tech.

1. No idea when the update should happen. They have no guidance on this.

2.VZW has seen no guidance that this update is going to address the call quality issue, and that I shouldn't expect that this update will do anything to help in that area.

3. After I asked for a replacement DInc, the rep checked (took about 2 minutes) and let me know that VZW will no longer replace DIncs for this problem because it won't fix the problem.

4. After my big WTF?!!? and my "I need a phone that works as a phone," he indicated that he is supposed to take my information and call me Monday or Tuesday with VZWs solution to my problem.

5. The programming change to the CDMA settings is a "third party solution not supported by VZW" but "you can make the change at your own risk" and he further said that "if it were a solid solution, VZW would have that as an option for the many calls" they are getting on the subject.

I honestly am a little stunned by this response from them, and may call in again to try to get someone else to verify this. I Have never been told before that there simply isn't a fix, and that they would call me back in a few days to let me know what the fix would be.

Anyone else having a similar response? Was this rep on target?

My phone quality sucks. Today, even showing 2-3 bars, I couldn't hear the other person giving me a phone number. OMFG, I had to ask them to repeating the f'n number about 6 times to finally get all 7 digits... I'm about to get in the car and go the the VZW corporate store and return it for an X. I resolved the battery issue with an HTC TP2 battery and get about 14 hours before dead, but the call quality can't be fixed.

I've *228'd so many times, I think VZW is going to file a restraining order.

I got my Moto Droid(one week old) replaced with a Dinc because of call quality issues. They tried to tell me to just be patient, a fix is on the way. I said "no, i need a phone i can use as a phone". Three days later i have a Dinc in my hand, and the Moto Droid is being dropped off with Fedex tomorrow. If it is new, demand a replacement.
Call quality is great on the Dinc! Very happy now!

People don't complain when things are working. ignore the haters. the DINC is what it is, incredible.

LOL agreed.

"My Inc gets garbled reception when I'm hanging upside down in a tank of piranhas with no bars on the south pole!!!!"

"Umm.... sir... you do realize that replacing your phone will not help."

"Why that's preposterous. I demand a replacement! In fact I

That sounds like a rep that doesn't have a clue on what to tell you and is trying to buy time and get you off the phone. I would have asked for his / her supervisor and moved up the chain until I got satisfaction. Try calling again and get someone who knows what they are talking about. I have crystal clear reception in my Inc. Probably the best call quality of any phone I've had even with a single bar!

You do realize that not every phone is going to work perfectly, yes? How about you not instantly blaming the OP for a defective device. It is not like he came on here bitching and screaming about having a bad phone. He made a civilized topic about his problem and people like you come in and absolutely have to blame him or comment about how perfect your phone is. This thread is about a problematic phone. You aren't helping by saying you have a perfect phone. In fact, no one gives a damn if you don't have problems with yours.

No call qualities with my Inc what so ever. It gets the exact same quality as my last phone which was just a dumb phone, but always had full bars. I have tested it at places I know I have bad service, and so so service and I get the same results less 2 bars (visually). I know some people have had actual sound issues, but it seems like this may be bad phones rather than a vast phone problem. I will agree that the software could be updated to show the true call quality but my phone has performed the same and as typical as any VZW phone on the network.

Good luck. I would definitely get a replacement, and if you live in an area with crappy phone service perhaps vzw is not the network for you. I bet you could get out of your contract if you hassle enough.

Then sir, perhaps no one gives a damn if you do.

My phone has call quality issues. I am not hanging upside down. It is not occasionally. It is a lot of the time. VZW and HTC both have admitted they know of this problem.

So sir, if you don't have the problem, good for you. Mocking the OP who has a legit problem serves no purpose.

I love my phone, as I am guessing the OP does....... wanting it to work right must be too much to ask.

The call quality is a known, widespread issue. They have a potential solution in the pipeline, and replacing your phone with another DrInc is not a reliable solution (good chance the new one would have similar issues). Why on earth would verizon throw you another $400 phone that won't fix your problem?
How would that possibly create value for the owners/shareholders?

EDIT: I feel for you, if you really need this fixed you can try and get a different phone. Or you can wait till the update comes, and hopefully fixes it. If you still have issues you can get it switched then.

ADDITIONAL EDIT: it's entirely possible this guy was lying to you. They have to have some form of quota (ie if you replace more than X phones a day, you can expect a stern talking to). You can try another rep, but I would not expect switching phones will solve your problem.
