Is Samsung really that bad?

I see a lot of people complain about how the Epic will fail because it is a Samsung brand phone. I've never owned a Samsung phone before, but other than the Instinct how has Samsung failed? I never see anybody talk about the Moment other than battery life.

Stop taking other people's opinion for fact, half the time when you ask for an opinion online all you get are biased and usually un-true opinions of different flavors depending on their factional fanboism, go to a T-Mobile or AT&T store test out the Vibrant or Captivate they are the exact samething as the Epic except they don't have a keyboard and a few other extras if you like it you'll like the Epic 4G.

Either way you'll have 30 days to try it guaranteed so don't sweat it.

I can see your dilemma...Let me see if I can help...First smart phone I had was an HTC TP...great phone for the time...then windows mobile kept well doing it's thing...then instinct...We don't talk about the instinct....then I moved to android...I had the HTC Hero first and heard about the Moment. Hero was nice, but I wanted the keyboard as I like options...So I got the Samsung Moment...I read the same thing you did..."samsung doesn't update their software or they forget about you" Keep in mind the moment received the 2.1 update before htc hero.

So would I go back to HTC...I was going to go Evo since it was first announced...but then heard about the Epic....I gotta say with the Epic and I even went to AT&T today to look at the captive...damn that screen is sweet and the phone is light as a feather....

I am going to stick with Samsung for now. My wife has the Hero so were good there...But like the last poster stated....you have 30 days.

To be honest, I've never had a problem with Samsung. Hell, I never had any problems with my Instinct like so many others did. I trust them more than I trust HTC at the moment...

Bottom line is, no, Samsung is not that bad, at all.

Just like everyone has said, Samsung actually does support their devices. There are alot of folks who would want you to believe other wise, but it's not true.

And like Vgameman2011 mentioned, I never had any problems with the Instinct, I had it for over a year, and I can clearly think of two large updates they did to that phone, which mean there may have been several small updates in between.

I have owned both HTC and Samsung (and motorola) and I prefer Samsung. Their devices feel solid and are well built, I have never felt that any of their devices were cheap. Never have they had quality control issues, unlike HTC, which can't seem to get that down. Not to say Samsung is the best ever, they have issues on some devices, (GPS on Moment) but they are far from a bad phone producer.

It is a mystery to me why the HTC fanboys like to come into the Samsung Android forums and bash Samsung, they do it here and they do it on the Moment forum (and likely on any other Samsung sub-forum). I don't see Samsung fans going into HTC forums bashing them on their crappy screens or terrible quality control. I like that I have never had dust under the screen of any of my Samsungs...

Because they just can't take this for a fact that some other company can make something better and faster than HTC, so they try to come here and dump their hate-trash. Well, after all internet gives everyone a source to complain publicly from the comfort of their cozy office or living-room. First there were people who had to complaint about TouchWiz and how it looks iPhone like. Its my personal opinion that it does take couple of elements from iPhone but only the ones which are functional and useful. Then when TW dust settled, suddenly I started reading more and more posts about samsung's non-support of their devices. I think the mobile device market has grown considerably in last couple of years so samsung wont repeat the mistake they made with Instinct three years ago. So go checkout Captivate and Vibrant, if you like something about them, get Epic and give it a go in your 30 day trial. If you still like it, keep it, else return it. If you fear future-support from samsung, dont worry, there are enough developers who are taking interest in Galaxy S lineup and I am sure you will always find some updated ROM to keep you satisfied.

I can tell you this. I have been the living crap out of my Instinct, and it keeps on ticking. It has its moments, though. Freezes up when I receive a voicemail, lags on occasion. Sometimes it won't send a text unless I turn off/turn on the phone.

We've had a couple incidents here but not out of control like the iPhone threads on the Evo forum. I hope it doesn't get like that here after launch. It has been so pleasant, yet frustrating, waiting for any scraps/tidbits of news on this device.

When I first entered the mobile phone market 10 years ago, I went with a candy bar style Samsung phone with T-Mobile. I loved that phone! Because of how well it worked during that first year or so, my next few phones were Samsung flip-style phones. I was always impressed with their build and how Samsung always seemed to throw in tons of features that many other manufacturers didn't offer (like Nokia...amazingly!). When I buy a phone, I want it to a.) work with as few glitches as possible and b.) offer every feature known to man, PLUS the kitchen sink, for a reasonable price. Samsung has given me that on previous phones.

Now, I can't say that I've had any experience with their Android phones, but Samsung has impressed me in the past with their hardware and because of that I bought a Samsung LCD TV and love that purchase as well. In my mind, they just make hardware that works. And if there is a problem, they come up with a fix for it (again, in my experience).

I don't think this is going to be a "which manufacturer is better/more reliable" debate when it comes to these phones. I think it will be more of a "which phone is the better deal for the price" debate. It may even just come down to a matter of what your personal preference is for a phone's design. For instance, I like the idea of a hardware keyboard and a nicer screen, so I'm leaning more towards the Epic than the Evo at the moment. Until I have both in my hands and can try them out though, I won't be making a decision....and I certainly won't let someone here sway me away from one manufacturer or the other before that.

I think that is the main point of frustration, lol. The whole lack of information is causing alot of tension. I, like you, prefer a forum where talking results in healty banter, not condescending remarks and anger. I really think interenet forums are brewing up a new kind of anger, the way cars did with "Road Rage" and how random things could spark a huge reaction from another driver, Internet forums are creating "Web Rage" (or whatever you want to call it) where someone can quote something wrong, or say something small, not meaning anything, and suddenly he has five different people posting negative/ angry things at him... It really is silly.

Behold II owner here and the problems I've encountered with Samsung and more specifically touchwiz is that it's bloatware heavy and decreases the performance of the phone. Samsung actually does a lot of things right, namely multimedia features and camera functions but they're very buggy when it comes down to the core android features.

I don't know what support is going to be like for the Galaxy S series phones but the Behold II with touchwiz was completely abandoned and their excuse being was that touchwiz 2.0 wasn't compatible to receive an update. The Moment was stock android so it was easier to update but like the Behold II, the epic 4G is rocking touchwiz, so what's to say that touchwiz 3 won't have its limitations when it comes to gingerbread?

I've had both touchwiz 1 and touchwiz 2 Samsung phones and they were both underwhelming to say the least.

Never had a samsung phone before, but, talking about the TW perspective, I am pretty sure if they can bring a update to 2.2, they should be able to bring a update to gingerbread, that is if they want to update to gingerbread. If samsung wont bring update for gingerbread, I am sure dev community will do something to bring us newer version of android and if TW will be the culprit stopping it, they can strip it off. I am reading everyday how Galaxy S is landing in china, canada, brazil, and is already in US and Europe. This is going to be a big line-up and we will receive the updates.. at least I am pretty hopeful about it.

fyi .. the samsung vibrant blows the evo away. the epic has to as well. I had the chance to tinker with a friends vibrant n wow .. the video quality is amazing as well as the speed .. I needa epic!

To the OP, in my experience, yes Samsung is really that bad. I got rid of my last two Samsung phones as quick as I could (Moments), they were bug riddled, and suffered from a debilitating "airplane mode bug" or CDMA Lockup.

My experiences with other Samsung offerings on Sprint were not any better, but to be fair they were "feature" or "texting" phones. But the way I look at it, is if Samsung can't inspire my confidence with their low end or mid tier phones, what it going to convince me to open my wallet to a high end phone.

That being said, it really does look like the Galaxy S phones are truly fantastic. The issues I have read about them thus far do not seem to be too bad, I think the worst is a GPS lag.

Was this necessary? No, but you took offense to things in this thread and thought you needed to defend for some reason.

The reason people throw out the HTC fanboy flag is because, on this forum, they are who mainly comes in trash talking Samsung. It is an unavoidable fact, not "insecurities".

No offense taken, I was just giving an explanation as to why the HTC fanboy flag was raised, it's not insecurity. ( by the way, claiming someone is insecure about something is only beating around the bush, when you really want to say something else)

As for the unfullfilled prophecy... I believe reading threads in this forum will show that that was fulfilled long ago. Or you can wander over to the Samsung Moment sub-forum and read there... my point is made there as well.

The fact that you own an HTC device only raises an eyebrow, lol. I wasn't even going to bring that up.

I beg you to make a statement that the majority of EPIC users WON'T have GPS issues.

Because really, evidence and proof is on my side.

When have I ever said "Epic 4G will 100% for sure NOT have GPS problems"? I have simply stated that we do not know yet, It may or may not have the problem.

I only challenge you because you come into the Epic forum, telling everyone that the Epic is garbage and to take it back as soon as you get it. That the Epic and the entire Galaxy S line-up are a massive failure. That every single Vibrant and Captivate owner is taking his/her device back and that noone is happy with them.

Your arguments are complete garbage and clutter up this forum, I only do this as a service to others who might actually take your word seriously. Most don't though, as they can read up on the problems the Vibrant/Captivate are having and determine for themselves if they feel like risking it. I have not once said "Everyone should go and buy the Epic 4G its the bestest phonez evar!" which is what you seem to think I am saying.

I'll go ahead and pull some threads from Vibrant and Captivate forums, you can read through them and tell that not everyone thinks the phone is garbage. There are some, yes, but there has never been a device released that had 100% approval. So I pulled threads that would most likely mirror your own opinion, and what do we find? A healthy mixture of those having problems and those that are not. We find some users who are taking back their devices and some that are happy with them. Folks having GPS problems and folks that are not.

You say Samsung has never had quality control issues....well except the GPS on the Moment?! And what issues am I bringing up? Quality control on the GPS in Galaxy S phones, the EXACT SAME THING.

I think we should all just calm down here. No one needs to whip out their e-Johnson in a game of "I'm Bigger Than You!". HTC phones have pluses and minuses, so do Samsung phones. Hell, we all know the issues iPhones have! There isn't such thing as a perfect phone. There never will be. Just go out and buy the device that fits YOUR lifestyle.
