Help I stopped using task killers/managers.

There's a thread similar to this on one of the Hero forums. I tried to stop using the task managers on the hero, but I noticed a quite a bit of lag once stuff kept building up. On the Moment, I was running into several issues with apps, and I figured it was due to the task manager (i use advance task manager). So to test my theory I stopped using the task manager and the device works as it should. What i found was that even with a lot of usage, this device does not slow down. Not sure if it's the lack of the sense ui (i'm using open home), the fast processor, both or what....but this phone can handle everything I'm throwing at it.

My advice, stop using whatever task killer you're using. One less thing to worry about makes for a better phone experience. :D

I'm having second thoughts too. I just ran into an issue with Startup Auditor. What I did was disable Google Talk since I did not use it. This affected my Gmail from downloading new emails, and it also affected Android Market's ability to download apps. Bugger, I did two hard resets to confirm.

But I installed these apps not to make my Moment faster, but to kill processes that utilized network connections, and cpu processing power. The idea is to prolong the battery power.

What issues were people having with it? How was it interfering with the marketplace?

I have Advanced Task Killer, and I swear it actually makes a difference. There are times when I'll open up the Apps menu, and there is a slight lag to scrolling through it. Nothing major, but enough to at least notice it. So I check Advanced Task Killer, and sure enough there's more than a screen full of running apps. After shutting those down, I go back, and the phone has a slightly faster feel to it.

I agree that the phone isn't affected much by tons of apps running, but I disagree with the notion that it's not affected at all.

interfering with the market, etc....that's background application data stuff that might have been off....

For the most part, the Moment does a great job of managing memory. The app killer is handy for killing apps like NFL Live, THe weather channel, the stock messaging app, Moxmail, etc....that's all I look to kill and only when I am going in battery mode.

I don't use the task managers and have good results with my phone, but I agree that the ones people use just to kill off the stuff like NFL live and such seem to have better results than those that leave them running and constantly monitoring processes. Those seem to be the ones that start reporting problems.

That was me who said that. It was a very unscientific observation. I downloaded taskiller. Then I killed a bunch of tasks. And then I went to the market. I could not access market....it said "network error" or something like that. My wife was sitting right next to me with her moment and had no issues accessing the market. I worked on it a bit with no success. I uninstalled taskileer and, voila, had market access.

I am a former Hero person so I am not new to Taskiller and know not to kill apps that I don't recognize or that I may need to run the phone. SO I don't think I killed any apps that hampered my access to the market....who knows. I may give it another go but have not really felt the need. I did, however, feel the need on the Hero which is why I used it.

I agree with you totally. Advanced Task Killer works great for me. Kills a lot of stuff in the background that runs automatically. I have yet to run into a problem and it most definately speeds up Android and might give me a few extra minutes of battery power. I'm using 1.5 until the upgrade for the Moment comes out (which it really needs I think).
