doubleTwist sync and iTunesPlus

So I got doubleTwist hoping for a nice easy sync to get all of my music from iTunes onto my phone. The problem is that I haven't purchased songs on itunes in over a year and I guess now they have something called iTunesPlus, which costs $0.30/song to upgrade to (and remove DRM) and doubleTwist can't convert my iTunes purchases to a playable format due to DRM protection. Is there another music sync service for Android that you guys would recommend that can help me actually put the music that I already paid for once on my phone? I'm not interested in giving Jobs another $182 just to listen to music I already paid for.

try itunes agent for your computer. It will recognize your captivate and allow you to sync it to itunes.

Will iTunes agent convert the files into a playable format on the phone? I think part of the issue is that the songs are in m4p format, and doubleTwist needs to convert them into a mp3 format, but can't do the conversion due to DRMs.

you will need to buy the plus tunes. you will not be able to transfer drm to the captivate. not sure there is a program that strips the drm on music -never looked. amazon ftw

There is a way to strip the drm from your music, but you are going to have to pay for it. I got a program (not at home so I don't remember the name) that used a "phantom" cd drive to burn the music and convert it. There are other software choices out there, and I wish I would have looked around a bit more before I got what I did. While it worked fine, it took a long time since itunes wouldn't let me just do the entire library at once. It thought I was burning a cd, so I was limited to however many songs it thought would fit on a cd at one time.

Having to convert my own music so that I could use it has really made me dislike itunes, and apple. However, they have done away with itunes plus and all music that is purchased now is drm free. This still leaves the music you bought during that period locked down though.

I know there are other options available, and most of them are in the 30 dollar range or so, which is much better than giving Steve Jobs all of that money. If you search around you may be able to find a better deal.

All those burn-and-reencode methods cause you to lose significant sound quality. You can get weirdness due to what can best be called "compression artifact harmonics" since neither Apple's nor MP3's compression is lossless. Like making a photocopy of a photocopy...

So, while a last-resort effort I suppose, you're not going to end up with a pristine exact digital copy of the original, DRM-less and of the same sound quality.

I just copy everything over to the Internal or the MicroSD storage areas. When you connect, use the z'mass Storage" option under the USB Settings on the Applications Menu tab. They are drives M & N on my PC. One is for the Internal Memory and the other is for the MicroSD Memory. I use the MicroSD. This is where you can access the 13+GB's of internal Memory. Everything copies over to include all of the Album Cover Art. No Problems at ALL. Only downside is you can't buy anything from iTunes via the Captivate. So just make all of your purchases through iTunes and than just copy what's new over to your Captivate. You can of course do the same thing with everything else!

Or better yet, install the Amazon MP3 app. Cheaper music, DRM-free, and you can download directly to your phone.
