NON ROOTED FRG22 upgrade possible?

Let me begin by saying I am non rooted. I do not wish to root. I apoligize in advance if this is a repeat but I have yet to find an answer anywhere regarding this issue. Let me also say I am sorry in advance for my horrid ghrammer and spelling. On to the show.
I have searched and scoured and burned my eyeballs trying to find a way to upgrade to FRG22. I am one of those who have been having lag and issues with my 2.2 upgrade. (it is sexy as hell though to look at and flash is ok. Not awesome of course. Fast moving video and demanding games and FLASH based video arnt the greatest, some damn choppy enough to make ur stomach turn but its a start and further than we were a month ago) Anyways back to the task at hand.
I have downloaded the FRG22-Release or ODEXED version of FRG22 and wish to install it on my Droid. I have downloaded 2 zip files for this and renamed them update.zip and tried it with them in their original file names. I get the e:verification sig error and install aborted each time. I also did not have BOTH on the phone at the same time. IF i applied one I removed the other.
I noticed between these 2 they are different file sizes as well so I dont know if that has anything to do with it. I followed Tridents Instructions to get to the menu to install the update. And YES i did use the FRG22 zip files to update not the original froyo release trident has as the first post on his forced update.
I would just like to know 2 things. 1.)Is it possible for NON ROOTED users to update to FRG22. and 2.) If it is and I have the correct file. Which do I use and what am I doing wrong to not make this work out for myself?
I thank you in advance for your time thoughts and answers.
DROID!:cool::cool:

"If you have the DEODEXED version and aren't rooted then I don't think it will work. I linked another thread that talks about this. I believe you need a different file and then you can do it.

Hey I downloaded FRG22-DEODEXED-Release.zip

Thank you for replying, however, I did mention I downloaded the ODEXED version of FRG22 which is the version that suppossedly works with NON ROOTED droids. Tried it again and redownloaded the files, still no dice. Sadness. Thank you again for a reply, I STILL AWAIT AN ANSWER! <hums>

The released Update actually required that you be on ESE81 (The official 2.1) only in order to upgrade.

I may have gotten a version that will install over *all* versions.

The FRG22 installs over FRG01B for sure, but I am not sure if it installs over other versions or not.

@Dan - that is the preferred method right now, as FRG01B in the sticky thread seems to require 2.1 stock (ESE81).

That's what I am on, 2.1 update1 stock as stock can be.

Now that easy root is back in the market, i am back to square 1. lol

I know that john is rooted. So he cannot confirm the use of FRG22 on a stock NON ROOTED Droid. I would not know how to get back to 2.1 and I have heard it is a nightmare to do so to test out if a 2.1 to FRG22 would work. If anyone can still confirm is a NON ROOTED upgrade is possible.

To answer the OP: Yes, it is now possible to do it - and this is regardless of what pre-2.2 OS (IOW, 2.1, 2.0.1, or 2.0) you're running on your DROID.

See my thread here - http://androidforums.com/all-things...d-smoked-glass-got-new-notifcation-today.html

I worked with Pete on this to verify what I suspected when I saw this update hit my phone yesterday evening at ~5:30 - and he confirmed what I suspected this is an "Update all to FroYo" build.

No more worrying about having to have a particular build on your phone. Let the fun begin.

John I thank you sir. However, if you read my OP I have updated to the TRIDENT 2.2 I am not a goof when it comes to phones however, I do not know how to flash my Motorola Droid back to a previous version of the OS. I hate to be a pain but how would I go about doing that? IF there is a post already on this please let me know and I will try to hunt it down best I can. So if I get this version of the 2.2 up and running I can successfully install the NON ROOTED version of FRG22?!!?!? SWEETNESS! Many thanks again for the info John. And to all those who p[osted =D

I only ask because when searching about the forums before to see if this was possible a poster said TO NOT use the debug reboot menu to flash your phone otherwise it would brick it.

You can revert to your previous or another version, and you *can* update to 2.2 (FRG01B) not rooted with ease now. I just did it on my phone - stock 2.0 (not 2.0.1, not 2.1, but any of those three will work) ==> 2.2 without a hitch.

The new OTA released today doesn't care what you currently have on your phone - as long as it is not a form of 2.2, you'll get updated.

If you used SPRecovery to install 2.2 on your phone, did you make a Nandroid backup first? If so, simply recover that backup.

If you did not, it is going to take some more effort - but it is still pretty painless.

Simply go to the How to revert back to Stock 2.0, 2.0.1, or 2.1 section of this post: http://androidforums.com/all-things-root-droid/136508-guide-all-things-root-related.html and follow those instructions. However, for the links, use the following links:

For the 3 .SBF files (2.0, 2.0.1 and 2.1) use the following page: Peter Alfonso - look in the third section, titled SBF files (Flash Using RSD Lite 4.7).

ESD20 is 2.0
ESD56 is 2.0.1
ESE81 is 2.1

For RSDLite use the one from the same line (RSDLIte 4.7)

For The Motorola Drivers, use the link in the guide.

Follow those steps exactly, to the letter. make sure your phone will have no chance of getting disconnected when you do this - any disconnection until the reboot is finished can brick your phone, although even then there is a chance that you can repeat the steps and it will work....

Finally, go back to my thread http://androidforums.com/all-things...d-smoked-glass-got-new-notifcation-today.html and grab the file from http://androidforums.com/all-things...ss-got-new-notifcation-today.html#post1335672. Copy that file to your SDCard and rename it update.zip.

To install, boot your phone into recovery (since this will be a stock image on your phone you'll see an exclamation point - then hold the volume up button and hit the camera button to get your recovery options). Select (using the D-pad on the KB) install update.zip, press the center of the D-pad to 'click' it, let her rip, and then when it is done, select reboot and let it reboot.

Congrats. You're now on FRG01B Android FroYo 2.2 Stock unrooted.

Enjoy.
