So last night at the bar (and previous other nights) I got a TON of questions about what phone my Captivate was. I think it's mainly cause I had the brightness at about half (I always do) and it was a pretty dark bar, so when I pulled it out it was like "SHABAZZ", ya know? I was more than happy to show it off too, too bad my Blu-ray rip of Avatar is like 5GB (and I'm not giving that up lol), otherwise I would have played that allllll night.

So anyways the main point of this post is to ask: How many of you guys are interrogated by Iphone users and/or other Android users? The screen is the main thing most people notice what I'm out.

I was showing my Captivate to a DroidX person and told her about Launcher Pro and stuff and she seemed a little ticked. Only crappy part is that there's no FLASH on the camera! Frustrating when you're in a dark bar and everyone is taking pics...

Yeah a flash for the camera would be the icing on the cake.
You do not say!!! I was showing off my phone to someone last night, bragging how cool and great it was, then i start to show a barcode scanner app (how to lookup prices on something by scanning the barcode), I pull out a pack of gum, and can't freaking scan it because the camera cant see it and focus under street light.

Did you try the camera's low light setting?

Wow, talk about overkill. Without cropping, the Captivate can't display beyond DVD resolution.

I did an insane high-quality conversion of Avatar (DVD) and it was 2.5GB. Took forever, so I'm continuing to play with Handbrake settings to see how much I can tune them down before I actually start to notice the quality difference.

Also curious how that 5GB file is working since the FAT32 limit on a single file is 4GB...

Anyhow, I haven't gotten a chance to show my phone off to a lot of people yet but I definitely have had some iPhone users jealous of the screen (and LauncherPro's look... and my widgets... and the fact I can put more than 12 icons in a folder). Just the pinch method to switch screens in LauncherPro will get a "wow..."

But it can and will play 1080p and 720p AVI or MKV files, hence the reason why the Vibrant came with Avatar in 720p. It's also the reason alot of people are looking for the mini-USB to HDMI cable; the TV displays what is on the phone screen, i.e. 720p video. It plays it crystal clear and with verrrrry little lag when skipping throughout the movie.

Well certainly you can download and play 720p and 1080p videos if you really want, but all they're doing is wasting precious storage space. The Captivate can only display 480p, and if you're watching a 2.35:1 widesceen movie (most are), then you're getting even less. Un-displayable video is wasted space, and space is limited.

Personally, I'd rather store four maximum-resolution movies than one at four times beyond what my device can display. ;)

ok man, we get it.... every member on these forums probably browses every thread - theres really not a need to add this to every thread. maybe its a placebo, maybe we like to add the highest quality videos and look at them, even if they dont look any better.... we have 16gb internally, up to 32 more added, if we find the need for space, we can delete things.

I hate the fact that everyone assumes the best phone AT&T has is the iPhone 4!! Every time I bust a move on my phone people ask me what it is and then that is almost immediately followed by "is it better than the iPhone?"!!

Sheep minded people and their blind following of slick looks and mind-numbing advertising. I have yet to see ANY advertising for the Captivate OR the Vibrant. What's the deal!? Years ago you'd at least see ads for the Blackjack.

I saw these ads on tv a few times. Oh and don't listen to the people asking if its better than the iphone. Most people have been brainwashed by apple's marketing. I'm personally holding out for the epic. I was going to get the Evo but I went to the ATT store and the Captivate's screen reeled me in. Galaxy S!
P.S. Do you guys know if any stock roms are coming out for the galaxy s line. I'm not a fan of touchwiz and I don't want to have to rely on Samsung for updates. Thanks!

If you don't like TouchWiz, check out LauncherPro. I got that on day one and never looked back at TouchWiz. Only thing you can't do (or I haven't found out how to do) is but the Samsung Widgets on the LauncherPro pages. Oh, and it's free.

My wife is very impressed by the screen and Swype and the widgets. She says the only thing keeping her from returning her iphone and getting a Captivate is the fact that the iphone has a front facing camera (which she uses with out of town relatives) and her huge outings song collection.

I personally hate, hate, hate itunes, but it would be cool to have a front camera.
