Root It wont flash Help me pleeeeease.

Ok so I'm running a branded Vodafone desire with software 1.24. I am trying to debrand by flashing the rom and then updating to froyo:D. I have created the working gold card but when i run: RUU_Bravo_HTC_WWE_1.21.405.2_Radio_32.36.00.28U_4.06.00.02_2_release_126984_signed
it starts the update but then i get a usb connection error (171) and I then have to disconnect, take the battery out and boot to recover my phone. Has anybody encountered this and is there anything i can do get around this? My original only slightly branded desire died by drowning and this is what the insurance company gave me as a replacement!:( Ooh forgot to say I am running windows 7 x64

I am running the same os as you so that won't be the problem.
Turn your phone off then turn back on while pressing the back button.
If you have a hboot of 0.83 then use the following guide

[ROOT] Method for HBOOT 0.83/0.92 (SLCD phones) - xda-developers

Sorry ignore me, You are talking about the goldcard method at first and that didn't work but Unrevoked loaded clockwork?

From clockwork (green screen) you need to install the new ROM and its Radio from your SD card. If you turn it off before you update it just seems to go back into the standard bootloader and you will not be able to load in the ROM on that.

Once installed it should boot the new ROM that has flashed but the loader will still be the same or at least it is for me. It looks like Clockwork only appears for the session with unrevoked running.

The only thing is he has got the 0.83 hboot, although he can root the rom becomes a problem as the 0.83 hboot is needed to run the screen.
The custom roms have 0.80 hboot as that is the rooted hboot, not sure if they have done a rooted rom yet based on 0.83 hboot

Unrevoked loaded clockwork and I can get to the green screen. I'll give it another go. Any Ideas where i can get a decent rom with radio? I presume this is in a zip file and is put on the root of the goldcard alongside the folder that say footprints and another i forget the name of? I read somewhere that the slcd screens the desire is now shipping with has caused a problem with display drivers.

Yes you are correct the zip file does go on the root of the sd card, also you will have to download the latest radio zip & place it there too.
You will of course have to see if the rom you want will work with hboot 0.83 otherwise that is where the blank screen problem comes from

Ok I'm getting a little confused. What i would like to do is put on an official htc rom and get rid of all this rubbish vodabloat ware. I was thinking maybe it was possible to upgrade to froyo at the same time although i'd be just as happy with eclaire, but now i'm not so sure. I have been bimbling around the web and it appears if you have the hboot .83 and the vodafone 2.1 update your basically forked

You cannot install the stock ROM because the version is older. What you can do is install a rooted official ROM by rooting your phone (which you've already done). You need to download this file and install it from recovery:

http://loadbalancing.modaco.com/dow...avo-stock-rooted-busybox-withradio-signed.zip

Do a backup before you apply the zip file, and after backing up you should select the wipe option (you will lose your settings, messages, apps, etc.). If it doesn't work for some reason, you can restore your backup.

Many thanks to all who are trying to help. I will have a go at the above and let you know how it goes.:)
