Rumored picture of the desire HD found!
8-7-10-desirehdpossibility.jpg

Personally I am happy with my desire and feel a bigger screen would be harder to hold. However I can see the appeal of it

Opinions??

I think it looks a LOT better.

Its very iphoney!!

I love my desire, but i have to say, it does look cheap and plasticky next to the iphone. The brown plastic does it NO favours IMHO

Why would you possibly want your phone to look like an iPhone? If you're that obsessed with it buy one. If not, stop commending manufacturers for having no creativity.

The Desire really doesn't look cheap in any way. And the brown 'Plastic' around the screen is metal.

the bigger screen would be too cumbersome imo and im happy with the picture quality (when you take the back cover off at least)

as for liking it looking like an iphone, then its down to taste.
personally id hate that it looks alike because this is meant to be an option other than the iphone so that you dont follow the masses. so why would you want it to look like one. Thats just my opinion anyway

Due to the current demand for the Desire - ie outstripping supply in most cases, I hardly think HTC would even dream of bringing out a succesor, to what is still a very new handset...
Maybe in a year or so, but it would be suicide to do it now - Cancelled orderes and unhappy recent buyers? I think not... And thats before the networks even have their say, and believe me - in todays world, networks can make or break not only a handset, but also a company - Even if they are as big as HTC...

Think about it - The networks go all out to push the desire (Iphone4) and all of a sudden, whilst they stillhave back orders, the manufacturer announces the Desire HD (IPhone5?)

It won't happen...

^^ That's what I was thinking. I don't see how this is a 'Desire' in any way. It's just another new HTC phone.

do i detect a little frustration here?

you bought a desire and now HTC are upgrading it, leaving you with the "old" one?

you could always write your suggestion for a name on a postcard and send it to:

Peter Chou,
HTC Towers,
Taiwan.

you might even win a blue peter badge.....

Look at it from the other angle. The Desire is one of HTC's most popular handsets to date, if not the most popular. Selling a new phone with the "Desire" brand name is automatically going to make people interested in it. That's also one of the reasons why Apple sells each iPhone as an iPhone. If they sold the iPhone, then the Apple Phone, then the gPhone, then the hPhone, people wouldn't necessarily think "oh wow, a new iPhone."

I think calling it the Desire HD would actually be quite clever. :)

They're obviously trying to trade on the name. The Desire is by far the most well-known HTC handset, and is well-regarded. By calling their next handset the Desire HD, it portrays it as "the same but even better" in the eyes of the average consumer.

Personally I think the only real advantage of the larger screen is if you watch a lot of video. Otherwise, I'd rather have a slightly smaller, but more pocketable device myself.

Agreed.

The rumoured upgrades are:

- .6" larger screen
- 8MP camera with dual LED flash
- Surround sound speakers
- 4GB built-in storage

May have missed something but I think that's it.. not a huge upgrade and not really worth it for Desire owners imo! Can almost guarantee the camera quality won't be much better, megapixels don't mean anything.

Now if they sold a 32GB built-in storage version I would seriously consider it :D
