Root Really starting to dislike my Evo

Ever since updating fresh 2.2 my phone is such a PIA. The internet is barely usable. It lags and does funny things. With people that are unrooted it seems a hard reset is what cures their ills. I guess we can't do that with ours? BTW i'm rooted with unrevoked 3. Any help. I would kill to go back to 2.1. My wife's Evo is still on 2.1 and hers works excellent.

Well an interesting note for what it's worth. I uninstalled Dolphin HD browser and my phone is so much better.

I really want to but the process of doing it is over my head. I have to go back to 2.1 to get there. I've read about it on XDA but they skip so many steps and make so many assumptions in the threads that guys like me can't get to the final product. I would love it if simpleroot would just go right over the top of unrevoked but I don't think it will as long as I am on 2.2. Getting back to 2.1 is the hard part. But you're right. That's what I need. I'd pay someone to do it if they were local. I'm in Dallas if we have any experts here.

Have you tried flashing a custom 2.1 rom and then running simpleroot?

OP needs to get on 2.1 first. And he's already unrevoked, so he can skip down to the titanium backup part.

Trust me, I'm not computer stupid but rooting was pissing me off too. But yeah if you're not on official 2.2 then it's possible to use simpleroot which is what I did and was WAYYY easier than manually doing it. I was actually mad at how easy it was haha.

I thought about that. I just didn't think you could go back to 2.1 after being on 2.2.

Yeah I have it all backed up with titanium and another online backup.

I'm no unrevoked expert, but I believe you can do nandroid backups directly from the custom recovery image. While you are in recovery, NAND is unlocked, so backup your current phone with nandroid. Flash any rooted 2.1 custom rom. Then try running simpleroot. You have nothing to lose. If it doesn't work, just go back to recovery and restore your nandroid image.

You may want to do a nandroid backup and restore round trip before actually trying the full root. Just to make sure you can get back to where you started.

now that I think about it, I think NAND is only unlocked during the unrevoked EXPLOIT phase of rooting. It might not be unlocked in recovery mode now. But again, I don't really know.

I'm rooted using UR3 and have Fresh ROM running with no problems. If something's hanging up then it's one of the apps not playing well. You mentioned that Dolphin browser made your phone suck. You removed it and it was better. That kinda seems like the answer right? Just see what apps are sucking and remove them. The coolest app in the world is useless if it makes your phone suck.

No I sure didn't.

I believe unrevoked puts clockworkmod on your phone as the recovery image. If that's the case, one of the options on the recovery menu is "nandroid." Select that, and you'll see 2 options: backup and restore. The backup is saved on the SD card under a folder called /clockworkmod/backup.

When you do a restore, the recovery image will allow you to pick a previous backup from that same location. It would be wise to test a backup and restore first before doing any drastic changes.

Did you find that you already had a nandroid backup from 2.1, and you just restored that? That would definitely qualify as being easy. Red Staples easy button commercial here.

And that also illustrates the importance of always doing a nandroid backup before flashing anything, however minor. It gives you a state you can always return to.

Yeah that's exactly what I did. Worked out perfect.
