ADW vs Launcher Pro

my bad sorry. wait you can download themes for LP too?

Not themes but you can customize the dock and icons individually, which I prefer anyways. I started using LP because HelixLauncher2 wasn't on the X after I switched from the Droid. The only reason I use a launcher is so that I can have less screens instead of blank ones and so that I can have a dock. So far I am loving LauncherPro Plus so I see no reason to change. There is really nothing missing that I would consider an upgrade enough to have to recustomize a new launcher.

Can somone help me? I started using the launcher pro recently- but everytime I try and resize a widget the entire phone freezes on me- the only thing I can do is hit the hardpress home button and all that does is give the 5 screen summary...is anyone else experiencing this or does anyone know a fix? i tried reinstalling a few times but no luck. I also went on the Launcherpro blog but i cant find anything there either.
Thanks

After you resize the widget, do you press the back button? If not, try that.

I have used both programs quite extensively. I would honestly say that for the most part it would simply boil down to personal preferences. The ADW app drawer is pretty cool but the LP drawer mimics the froyo 3d look. Both docks are equally useful in their own rite.

I have noticed that LP tends to be a bit more snappy on my phones and ADW recently started FC's. Right now I am using LP as my default and I don't know that I will be going to anything else. I really like the dock icon unread/missed call notifications.

Just my two cents

Anything that will make this thing work in landscape is fine by me. WHY on earth did they set this thing up to work in portrait only!!(home screens that is).

Once you get used to using a phone in landscape you will never go back.

Can someone give me a link to ADW? On AppBrain if you search for "ADW" you get 6 pages of themes.

Using ADW over LauncherPro purely for security reasons.

Both can understandably access lots of lots of data on your phone.

LauncherPro, however, has the android.permission.INTERNET permission, which means that it is possible (by accident or on purpose) for your gmail/calendar/contacts/etc. info to be transmitted over the internet. ADW has no transmit-type permissions.

Your are trusting your GMail to the developer in Argentina. You may be OK with this, and that's fine.

Regardless, LauncherPro's permissions flagrantly violate security best practices, and I'm avoiding it for that reason.

ADW is pretty darn cool. I installed today and it has a bunch of interesting configuration features. The theme functionality is quite cool. I downloaded paperless and buuf themes -- both free and both very slick. paperless is basically like the "take on me" video all penciled in. Nifty.

That said, I can't find good information on how to configure everything -- it's kind of trial and error. Is there a manual or something somewhere?

That's perfectly understandable. The only way Frederico uses that information is for the syncable widgets. I have discussed it with him in the past. I understand not wanting to make available that information to a stranger, but after talking to the dev at length over time it became rather evident what his intentions are.

Without uninstalling LP, is there anyway to disable it temporarily/stop it from running? I want to test out ADW but both launchers seem somewhat laggy with both ADW and LP running on top of the stock home launcher.

Other then that, so far I am actually liking ADW better....adding things to the homescreens is slightly buggy IMO, it adds it to the first available spot instead of the location you longpress on, but thats only minor unless you constantly change your homescreens. It does seem a bit smoother, and it seems to transition from the lock screen to the launcher (ADW) faster than it transitions from the lock screen to LP, which reduces some of the remaining lock screen lag seen on 2.2.
