hi guys i have bought a desire off vodafone last night after deciding not to get the iphone...
i am really confussed when it comes to rooting? and de branding...
i have always had sony erisccons and nokias in the past never an android phone.
with my se's debranding was simple and easy to change back if the phone needed to go backk under warrenty.

In your opinion will i need to debrand my desire?
what is rooting?
if i do debrand it can i rebrand it?
and whats the ROM all about?

i do have a fairly advanced knoledge when it comes to pc's and se's and even nokias so i would be able to debrand it ...

rooting gives you access to the boot loader on the phone, which is a bit like the bios on a PC. It enables you to load custom ROMs (operating systems) on your phone. I use ROM's from Modaco's website by Paul. These are based on the originals provided by HTC so are familiar and run really well. The advantage is the new operating systems such as FROYO came out a few weeks earlier this way than if you were to wait for vodafone to issue the update, and then it will have their branding all over it.

My advice is do not root and do not debrand,at least for now. Enjoy your phone and experiment with it and see if you require more than it already offers. the Desire is a fantastic phone even at stock settings, besides 'froyo' (the latest software update) will soon be out for branded.
If after you have tried this and you notice that you lack something that you feel rooting can give, then root the phone.
I have an unrooted phone (unbranded) and i am perfectly satisfied with it.

This. There is no rush to root/debrand. Give it a few months and then consider it. It isn't hard btw at all.

Only one problem i don't think they have cracked root from the froyo update as it installs the 0.92 bootloader

I have a stock standard Telstra Australia Desire and it is fantastic without trying to root it up
