I posted this in the Incredible forums figured I would here incase anyone hasn't seen this or was interested.

Here we go:
  • Android 3.0 Gingerbread will be released in mid- October (around 15 -16th), 2010. First handsets shipping in November/December – for the Holiday Season.
  • Minimum hardware requirements for Android 3.0 devices are: 1GHZ CPU, 512MB or RAM, displays from 3.5” and higher. (We all, of course, heard that Android handsets with 2GHz CPU’s are coming)
  • New 1280

I'm sure this is a total newb question but what would be the point in releasing Froyo in September only to then release Gingerbread a month or two later?

Why even release Froyo in that case?

For someone that has come from the original BB storm I dont really care about when I get Froyo. The Droid X is awesome enough as it is with 2.1 at least for me. Aside from Flash I dont even know that I'd notice the differences

Last time I checked, Google did confirm that those, "minimum requirements," are actually going to be the recommended system requirements. You don't need a device with a 1GHz processor and 512MB of RAM. That's just what they recommend you have.
No I don't think "Google" ever did.
If you can provide a reliable source from "Google", I will take back what I said.

That may be when Google will release Gingerbread but that does not necessarily mean that is when it will be released for all compatible phones on all carriers. Depending on the outcome regarding the presence or addition of manufacturer's UIs, Gingerbread could apparently be released quickly or in some cases could be delayed by weeks or months for some phones.

Android Gingerbread Rumors Dismissed By Google on Twitter

Anon said:
Our heads went all dizzy when we heard that the minimum required specs for Android 3.0 Gingerbread phones was to be a 1GHz processor, and 512MB of RAM. But now the rumormongerer has clarified they're only "recommended." UPDATE

Today, the man who first brought us those heady specs has tweeted a clarification, based on a conversation with sources. "1 Ghz, 512 Mb etc its not minimal requirments but recommended one."

1. Android 3.0 (Gingerbread) will be released in time for the holidays.
2. Android 3.0 will have a complete new UI. Team working on this is led by Mattias Durte.
3. Android 3.0 will have a new look and feel for the music and media player.
4. Music downloads will be available from the Android market for gingerbread and probably for the older versions as well (his words).
5. Google will include streaming of DRM-free music from a desktop app to an Android device based on "Simplify Media"' (which they acquired a few months back) technology.
6. There will finally be a normal way to sync your android with your PC. He preferred not going into details about it but he said that is one of the problems that would be solved in the next version.
I think we can trust Gizmondo. Isn't that reliable enough?

Gizmondo's source in the above article is the same person who originally stated the system, "requirements." The supposedly required specs that you're standing so strongly by were given originally by the same man who has corrected himself and stated that they are actually recommended specifications.

On top of that, I think it makes more sense that they would be recommended and not required. There aren't currently that many devices that meet those hardware specs. Leaving all other Android devices behind the in the dust wouldn't be a smart move, and it really doesn't sound like something that Google would do. It just makes sense that they would allow all other devices to run Gingerbread as well.

source? Where did you get this info from?
The source is in the post. Read it again please.

This completely sums up how i feel. While i completely welcome the update to froyo if it will even be a tad bit better. Coming from a tour no amount of update can outdue the update from a blackberry to a droid x.

I don't know how long you have been following Android updates but here is the fact.
-When Google said that Gingerbread will be out by end of this year, it just means that it will be out but does not mean it is ready for any specific device, it just means SDK will be released.
-Froyo was released in May. Nexus one is the only one that's had it for a while and some others are just getting it.
-Gingerbread may be out December, but it will be at least Feb/Mar until more than five devices are officially updated to it.
-Also for most, the update does not mean much, unless the device was having problems earlier.

either way, they are rumors just like other rumors on those blogs.
Until Google comes out to say anything, all is up in the air.
(Google did come out officially and say that the gingerbread minimum specs are fake, AND said nothing about "recommendation")

I realize that this is going off-topic but I wanted to squeeze this in.

I wonder if the Froyo present on AllDroid's dev phone is completed. I realize that it probably isn't, especially considering that Motorola is now saying they're going to release this audio fix with it, but still... If they manage to fully crack that phone, we might all have 2.2 sooner than we originally though.

I'm guessing you haven't read this yet then? Motorola Droid X Review

Still think you can trust everything you read at Gizmodo? ;):D
That's has nothing to do with whether we can trust Gizmodo or not.
It's just a review, it can be good or bad.
Gizmodo is simply reporting rumors, while it tries to report only reliable reports, some rumors will just be rumors.
