Woohoo! I woke up this morning, went to take the Droid off the charger and the screen goes black. Next thing I know the little system update notice pops up. Holy crap, verizon FINALLY sent out the official Android 2.2 update for the original Droid! I haven't had much of a chance to play with it, But thus far I'm noticing a few things (Keep in mind I'm running Launcherpro Plus instead of the standard home screen):

1. Everything is faster - not drastically faster, but everything is peppier.
2. the virtual keyboard has been upgraded again. It seems to be a bit better about word suggestions and now it also gives punctuation suggestions. Neat.
3. email accounts are now noted while in your inbox
4. menus are slightly different
5. Some software that had been upgrading to work with 2.2 suddenly works differently. the biggest one is Weatherbug, which now adds a full graphical preview screen inside the pull-down notification menu.
6. The pull-down notification menu now says verizon wireless when opened (who's the jack ass who inserted that)
7. the market now has a widget that gives your descriptions of recommended apps (It sucks)
8. some desktop shortcuts died and had to be replaced from the app drawer. the oddest one was the camera.
9. The picture gallery animation is now much smoother
10. you have a new much better rendered analog clock widget; a new Home screen tips widget; Twitter widgets seem to have installed themselves (I've never installed twitter on my phone); and two different google search widgets (a basic and a more advanced one); and
11. The look of the texting screen has changed.

I'm sure there is a bunch of other stuff, which I'll find over the next few days. The biggest thing I'm looking for is how to save apps to the SD card, and whether it is possible to just move installed apps there (or do I have to reinstall them).

Overall thus far I'm very pleasantly impressed.

Sweet! Now I won't feel so bad about having an old phone haha. The biggest thing I'm hoping for is wifi tether. I also noticed on my new droid (got it a few days ago my old one broke) another sensor that looks just like the camera on the back, it's not the light sensor either I tested it out.

As far as I can tell, Mine has wifi tethering disabled. the only option I'm getting is for USB tethering. I seem to remember this being something verizon requested because they plan on selling the service.

Are you talking about the flash? do you see what you are talking about in this picture?

No not at all...I'm referring to the front of the device I see what looks like a tiny front facing camera. My first droid didn't have that same sensor I put them side by side in the store but didn't think anything of it tell I got in the car and remembered the verizon guy saying that really old droids weren't gonna get 2.2 as fast if at all and the newer ones would get it very soon which would make sense if the hardware was upgraded.

do you mean the one you see just to the right of the speaker in the picture below? If so, I'm pretty sure that's the light sensor.:

No their are 3 of them the one to the right of the speaker is a light sensor for sure but their is a dark blue one that's only visible in bright light to the left that was not on the November launch droid. Like i said I test it, I put my finger over the light sensor and it obviously dimmed but when I put it over the suspected front camera it did not dim....

Based on your post I just put my droid up to a bright light and sure enough there are two large round sensor-like circles side by side on the upper left hand corner. There is also a fourth, smaller one, to the right of and slightly lower than the light sensor, near the edge of the screen.

Interesting, I'd never noticed these before, but only saw them when looking at it under a bright light.

So what else could it be? I figure proximity sensor but it looks so much like a camera and when I covered it nothing...
