Help Another Android Newbie

How you doin, I just got my Droid X (first android phone) and I come from the blackberry world. Is there like an Android 101 post or PDF somewhere on the net that I could read to get up to speed on the basics of Android? One main question I have that I hope somebody can answer is....do application close when you just back out of them or press the home screen button? Anybody familiar with BlackBerry OS knows you have to press the BB button then click close to actually shut the app down otherwise it will bog the phone down like crazy. I have been reading a lot on here and I am picking up a lot of info but it would be helpful if there was a crash course put together somewhere I could just read.

You were rockin the BB Storm? Android is going to be like night and day compared to that hunk of junk. With the Android OS you don't usually have to worry if the app is completely shut down. The OS will decide if it needs to be shut off completely or not. Just exit the app and you are good to go, Android can handle multiple apps running. If you feel the need to force an app to shut down you can go into your phone menu, should be

Settings>Applications>Manage Applications>Running
or Settings>Applications>Running Services
(I don't have a DX yet so it might be different)

You can see a list of all your apps running and kill the ones you want. You can also download a task killer app. I wouldn't do either unless you are having performance issues and then I would kill them manually.

Most tasks stay in memory. It's by design.

+1 on this...

The Android operating system is very efficient. It'll shut down apps by itself if those resources are needed by another app. Of course some will argue that you need an Advanced Task Killer but the jury is out on that.
