Root Please help! Rooted but dont know what to do next with any ROM

ok i followed the rooting process without PC. but now i dont know how to:

1. get any ROM
2. save it to root of SD
3. activate ROM

im really hoping its not as hard as it sounds.

1) Poke through the threads that have titles starting with [ROM] at Droid Eris Android Development - xda-developers, and download the one you want.

2) There are about a dozen ways to do this. The one that requires the least amount of learning on your part is to download it initially using your phone's browser, and then move it to the root of your SD card (the "/sdcard" folder) from the location where the browser initially downloads it (the "/sdcard/download" folder) using a file manager app. There is an explicit example of how this is done, with lots of pictures, in this post. (Note that in this case, however, you DO NOT unzip the ROM file you download!)

3) The installation of the ROM goes as shown (with lots of pictures) in this post. Note that this post starts with making a Nandroid backup - that's important. Do not skip.

ok apparently im not sure if i root-ed correctly. i did the power/volume-up but am getting the Android Recovery System <2e>. at this time i am lost. should i go step by step again from the beginning??? this is pretty frustrating.

If you see the stock recovery <2e>, then you did not root using either the "dummies" method, or the "one click" method. When booting into Amon_RA (after you have rooted), the menu will not appear until 8-10 sec after the 3 skateboarding Droids appear.

I did use the "dummies" method. i also got the blue screen with you are now rooted message. then i just tried to reboot after that. then i get stuck with the 3 skaters or im in the other Android system recovery screen.

i tried the vol down/ end button and got into hboot to go to Recovery but then i get stuck with the 3 skaters again.

should i go back into flashing root_part 1 and part 2 again. or should i go back into doing the thing all over again???

This sentence confuses me:

"i get stuck with the 3 skaters or im in the other Android system recovery screen".

Are you saying that the OS will not boot, or you are saying that sometimes the phone hangs going into the recovery boot, and sometimes doesn't hang, but goes into the stock ( <2e> ) recovery?

If your phone reboots into the main OS correctly, I would re-perform both root_part1 and root_part2.

Please be as precise as possible in describing what you observe. For instance, you said "then i just tried to reboot after that". Taken literally, that means that you were not following the instructions, which tell you to attempt to boot into the recovery.

Sorry about that i meant that the first time i did the Vol-up/End button it went straight to the 3 skaters then at one point I tried it again and had received the Android Recovery System screen.

btw does the dummies Root pertain only to the 1.5 version or can it be done for the 2.1 version also?!

I personally tested it on 1.5 and every version of 2.1, including the leak ROMs and the OTAs.

The thing which is unusual/screwy about what you are reporting is that you are still finding the "stock" recovery boot <2e> on your phone. You should not have received the "congratulations" message if the root_part2 succeeded - and that would have put Amon_RA on your phone.

I notice in another thread you said you had Amon_RA. So, which is it - do you have it or not?
