Got a question about some running services i would like to know about. basically i don't know what they are and was hoping for some information on them:

SnSService
OmaDrmConfigService
GTalkService
DMService
AABSyncService

and what about MailService. If i stop this would all my incoming mail just completly stop?

snsservice = security and system notifications
omaDRMconfig = protected media license checker.
Gtalk = google talk chat service
DMservice = device manager
AABSYNC = android address book sync

Don't stop any of these.

If you still have the at&t crapware like I do then you will see wisp - that is at&t's stupid hotspot locator. You can kill this one but it will come back unless you root and disable it.

I consistently stop the above two services on my phone when I reboot it. I find that they use a lot of battery power. If it causes your phone to become unstable just reboot your phone and then stop one and then the other to see which one has dependencies.

ps - These are the android forums. Shouldn't your Google sign on work with the forums? That seems a bit circumspect. :cool:

Android Address Book Sync I have not seen on any previous phone (although I have only used HTC) so I don't know much about it. I do know that the Google Talk service is what keeps you signed into the Google account constantly, and while it CAN be disabled, it shouldn't because it will negatively impact at least push Gmail notifications and certain aspects of the Market (led to some issues doing updates). I know this first-hand from some issues with CM (5.whatever or whatever) last year where Cyanogen had the Google Talk service set up to kill itself every so often to save battery, and we lost Gmail push notifications and had trouble updating apps in the Market until he put it back (like the next night- ROMs were moving at a crazy pace back then). Hope any of that helps.

Would be nice to have a profile A and profile B toggle. When I'm home on Wifi and plugged in, I don't care what's running. Most of the rest of the time I'm going to be out of 3G range and limited on Data Usage, so I'd like just the bare necessities, like text and phone calls. Sort of like the Airplane Mode, but including more services you don't need and stuff to aid batter life. I suppose one can get used to starting and stopping stuff all the time. I was told NOT to use killer apps.
