Any EVO Users Hit by Android Trojan Yet?

Anyone been hit with this Trojan?
Any ideas as to the suspect media player or malicious website?

IDK if I would even call it a trojan, when you install it it asks for SMS permissions, and you allow it, so its your issue if it starts doing weird stuff, its not like it starts making the whole phone pop up porn like my grandpas computer did cause he had 3 Trojans, it just uses the sms capability in a bad way

yea, I could develop an app that forces your phone to call 911 over and over, now that would be bad, but Google would take it down in a heartbeat, and if your dumb enough to dl it off the net, then yea, so the chance of a wide spread virus on android is little, its the news that spreads more, now people are going to think android can get all these viruses, and then the iPhone is 100% safe, like mac and PC's, if it is an electronic device run by software, then it can have a virus written for it

closest i've came to thinking i had any virus/bug was a browser redirect. Dunno how it happened, but suddenly any link i clicked on using Dolphin sent me to amazon's site. Even if i opened a new browser, it still redirected. I powered off/on and it went away. Had me worried for a sec though as i've downloaded APK's from the web (skype, gallery, etc).

NO because I only install apps that:

a. are market approved and have thousands of downloads and positive reviews
b. have been passed around the forums long enough for someone to know what the hell they do.
c. only have the permissions that make sense for them to have.

With articles like these, nobody thinks Android is not a secure platform. However, some people can't handle the power Android gives to the user. Some people need an iPhone 4 because they want everything done for them. I have heard gingerbread may make android more user friendly.

With articles like these, nobody thinks Android is not a secure platform. However, some people can't handle the power Android gives to the user. Some people need an iPhone 4 because they want everything done for them. I have heard gingerbread may make android more user friendly.

Well, at least Android requires the user to do something that isnt bright. So far the two big exploits for the iphone involved a square text message that didnt even require a user's response to take control of the phone and an exploit of their (apples own) PDF reader that also gave someone control of the phone. And in that instance its not uncommon to open PDFs on the phone.

Someone was telling me about a keyboard in the market. I saw that the keyboard needs access to the internet. I told people in the forum that a keyboard shouldn't need internet access unless its trying to pass passwords and credit card information over the internet. Not unless the app uses voice to text. Voice to text requires internet access.

I thought the Android/ EVo runs off of linux? Who would take the time to write a virus to effect a linux OS?

our phones are not based off of windows, so i think were good..

There are probably more Android phones than Linux based computers now, so it would be more attractive to write a virus, trojan, or spyware. The only reason there are little to no viruses for Linux is market share, Windows is on over 70% of the systems worldwide.

Yeah, Linux is pretty sweet. When i saw the different screens on the EVO for the first time.. i said; "oh.. that's like linux." haha.. i didnt know that it was based off of linux at the time.

This trojan sms thing? was it more like malware or a malicous app? Would it really effect the operating system and crash the phone? I know that linux requires passwords for any changes to the kernal and OS, what about an android phone? If its a corrupt or malicous app; cant we just delete it?

i dunno. you guys tell me..
