HTC Desire or Samsung Galaxy S

What do the real hardcore android uses choose?
I'm getting a new phone and I can't decide between these two beasts!

I got the HTC Desire yesterday my sister got the Galaxy S today. The Galaxy is very slim (slimmer than iphone 4) with a lovely large screen and very clear big letters. It is also very very light. My Desire is equally as good, more solidly built a lot heaver which makes texting with one hand a bit harder. The man in the O2 shop said the galaxy is light and quite plasticy in feel which will break if dropped whereas the Desire is a more solid sturdy phone which can withstand a more robust existence. Hard call. Good luck with whatever you choose.

Yeah it's a very hard call. Have you already had the chance to compare the UI? I understand they bot run 2.2 but I hear HTC has a slightly better interfeace, whereas the Samsung has a faster processor and better looking pics and vids?

Honestly? Galaxy S.

Root, remove carrier bloat and ADW/LauncherPro. The SAMOLED is beautiful.

Get the Galaxy S, on top of everything everyone else pointed out. The Hummingbird processor chip in the Galaxy S is faster than the Snapdragon in the HTC Desire.

I would love to get the SGS just that it has bad GPS, NO Froyo and well... it's samsung. I don't expect they care much about their phone once they sold it meaning no updates... etc.

There's already a stable 2.2 firmware available, not official but it does work, it's officially being released next month.

I would say the Samsung Galaxy S. Its much nicer looking, better and bigger screen (Better as in Super AMOLED Screen) and it runs Android, but has TouchWiz 3.0 over it as well, and damn, its such a sexy UI.

I'm torn myself. I have a hero and love it but the processor just isn't big enough to handle 2.1 and gets hung up at times. The desire is suppose to come to cellular south (US carrier) soon and then in the fall, the galaxy x. The one thing I keep coming back to is flash. How big a difference will a phone not having flash make between one that does?

Now that might make up my mind. I love the google navigation and you have to have a workable gps to use the navigation feature I would assume. I didn't realize that gps has been an issue with samsung.

Samsung has announced their commitment to fix the GPS problem on the Galaxy S line in September. Also there is 3rd party fix out there. So the GPS should not have any issue moving forward.

As far as update by Samsung or the lack of it, whether it is true or not is irrelevant to me. I don't usually keep my phone that long to have concern on updates. And I think most people change phone very often as well. So it should be a non-issue.

Is it my imagination or maybe just the screen shot I have seen but the galaxy s looks like a iPhone.
I have a desire and love it. Moved from 3GS

I've seen a Samsung Captivate (the AT&T version of the Galaxy S) and it is a pretty sweet phone. But I just bought a Droid X, the GPS issues the Galaxy S has been having is a dealbreaker for me. I use my GPS quite often. So instead of waiting for the Verizon version of the Galaxy S to come out and then waiting for the GPS fix, I went with something else without a known glaring issue. It's like the iPhone4 antenna problem in my mind; both issues must have been known before the phone was released, but it was released anyways, and neither problem is fixed yet by the manufacturer. There are 3rd party GPS fixes for the Samsung, and the bumpers/cases mask the antenna problems on the Apple, but the root issue is still there and unresolved in both cases. And Samsung has a reputation for not supporting stuff after it's released. I had a Samsung TV that had a main board issue less than 2 years after I bought it, and a repairman couldn't even source a new part from Samsung, they didn't carry it or even support that TV anymore. And the previous Samsung phone I had had the screen die right at the 2 year mark.

Anyways, to paraphrase, as nice as the Galaxy S is, and as much as I want to love it, Samsung has left a little bit of a sour taste in my mouth, so I'd suggest you go with the HTC Desire.
