Any Satisfied Hero Users?

I'm just wondering, is there ANYONE who thinks the Hero is a good phone? I am really unhappy with mine. Dialing is very sluggish. Apps start spontaneously. Battery life is so-so. My phone rebooted twice today, for no apparent reason. In short, I HATE this phone! I can't wait to get rid of it.

Although I always LIKED my Hero before rooting it, I must say that after rooting and installing a new rom I do believe that it's now the phone that it should have been from the beginning.

Give it a shot. It's really not that hard to get it rooted and rom'd. Read the links and tutorials and ask any questions you need. Everyone around here is pretty willing to help out.

Rooted Hero = just dandy :)

I agree 100%. Liked it before rooting, like it much better now. Was very hesitant to root, but with the help and encouragement of the folks here, it went smoothly, and I wonder now why I didn't root months earlier.

Been extremely happy with the 2 Heros I have. One on 2.1 and the other on 1.5 with no plans to upgrade. Phone is fairly zippy and have had no real issues other than the ones I cause by messing around with things. I have even decided to wait on my upgrade which is due in October. The Hero is going to keep me satisfied until the next big thing comes out early next year.
I will be sticking with HTC products as I love Sense UI and the quality of my Heroes is top notch.
I have never had dialer lag, does it really take 30 seconds or more to start dialing? Never had that happen.

I love my Hero. Honestly, it was slow as hell and frustrating at first, but after 2.1 and actual usage, it's gotten MUCH better. I'm loving my phone now. Can't complain. My battery life is pretty good too. All day with minimal use will leave it at 80%. Decent usage and at the end of the day it's at 50-60%. This is with my stock battery and my obostore 1800~ battery.

Agree with all the above. I am considering getting a new phone but will wait until HTC releases the next great phone after the EVO. Only issue I have is not enough memory on the phone, which I could fix by A2SD but for whatever reason I haven't done it. Probably afraid I would burn out my SD card.

Sense is amazing, Android is fantastic and the Hero does it all very well.

Keep it coming get close to convincing me to root, even though my Hero has been much better as of late since I have made LP my default, I still have random reboots and of course as many know still have the sleep mode issue from time to time, so rooting is looking much nicer these days, I will jump soon I promise :D

FWIW, I jumped back and forth between root/stock 3 or 4 times before sticking with root. Read, read, read, ask questions, read... don't do it until YOU are ready and YOU are comfortable. We're all here to help :)

I will toss my hat into the ring of people that love their Sprint HTC Hero. All electronic devices have their quirks, but I have been lucky since the Android 2.1 update in that most have either worked themselves out or they were very minor in nature to begin with.

I know a lot of people have had issues much worse than the minor quirks I mentioned above and I wish it were not true as the Sprint HTC Hero really is a great handset. But the reality is that there are some people that are unhappy with it. I fully respect their opinions though. You take the bad with the good.

Thanks bud, I have been reading, I am getting closer, worst case scenario I can always go back to stock, or get a new phone, LOL

I've read hundreds of hrs. of forum posts, articles etc. and I've had 2 other pda ph's in the last 5 yr's and each have have their strengths/weakness's as is the case with the Hero.Currently it's un rooted with 2.1 which did have the dial lag, until it froze in a Force close cycle which couldn't even do a full reset,so after Sprint repair center tech.did a network reset and some other term I don't recall it has been nearly flawless,I don't use bluetooth for anything so I can't comment on that nor do I use any task killer.
The things I do which I believe keeps it running smooth are:no task killer, keep cache & histories cleared on a reg.basis, clear text & ph.histories often. The one unique thing about Android os is that most minor glitches have a way working themselves out in a day or two.I don't have any programs that auto.update except weather which is set to 1hr.intervals,all others I do manually. The auto update features and conflicting apps.were the major problems with Palm os so I guess I keep them at a minimum out of habit. The other thing is when in an app.,a program or internet and ready to go on to something else or quit I use the back button until it won't go back any further which takes the place of a task killer.I power the ph.off /back on every day or so and do the battery out/in about a mo.or so.I try to keep my internal memory above 50 mb's(can go lower),mines at 85 mb's remaining now.
Battery life (ave) for an 8-10 hr day is about 50% and then about 25% remaining when I put it on charger before bed time, but thats only actually using it aprox.1 and 1/2 -2 hrs. for combined use,the rest is in standby.
So i would have to say I'm satisfied and would rate it at 8.5 out of 10, the build quality of mine is exceptional and overall there aren't any 10's,at least in my opinion. At some point I will root it then decide if I want to move on to another ph..

You can go to a Sprint repair store and they will fix that issue before the warranty runs out

Me and my wife have had ours for eight months. We are stock and 1.5 which runs great. We are extremely satisfied. A little dust under the screens but no operational issues. TC
