Hi. Hope this is in right section.

The problem i have, is that i bought a Desire from England and it was in Orange network. It is now unlocked and i can use in my country with local service providers. But i would like to get rid of the orange ROM and have a normal unbranded ROM for europe to get all HTC updates on time. BUT. Is there a step-by-step guide, how to that or can someone explain very simply this process to me.

Actually i found something on an other forum, but not sure if this is the thing i was looking for and is there a change that at some point of rooting and etc Orange simlock will "return"?

Many thanks in advance.

If you root your phone you won't get OTA updates, but you will have more freedom to customize your phone.
There are loads of roms over at xda that you can use depending on what features you like.
Also the chances of a simlock returning once unlocked are rare.

as i understand, it is not very difficult to make goldcard or is it? i don't want any fancy custom rom's i just want normal android with htc sense. If i only want a normal android with sense, is it better to make goldcard and use those roms what i linked or root and use the roms you gave?

if you want the normal 2.2, then you can achieve that OTA once you have debranded using the goldcard method. you can then flash on the original htc RUU in the link that you found, and if all goes well, you should be eligible to receive the 2.2 update.

word of warning though, if you do ever decide that you want to root, you may not be able to after updating to 2.2 OTA because no one is sure if it can be rooted.

I have rooted my phone straight after instructions were posted on modaco and to be honest I have never used root functions...

Shame there is no Orange ROM.... I know its poor but now I cant get Orange maps back.... :( Any way why there is no Orange ROM ?? is it really impossible to extract Orange ROM out of new phone ?

And thanks for reply... Im going to unroot my phone and then update...

Don't think there is enough demand for the orange rom, or maybe some legal quagmire perhaps with regards anyone making them available

Thanks.

I started to make goldcard, but i have a problem. i use this tutorial: [TUT]Complete upgrading guide(root, unroot, flashing ROM & updates) - xda-developers post#3 point 4: Ensure you have unzipped the SDK, then open a command prompt to the extract location. Change to the 'tools directory.

How i "change to the 'tools directory"? what that means?

Use the goldcard tool m8 its much easier

my god thats easy :D thanks dude!

just one last question probably. if i download ROM (this page: [ROM] Official HTC Desire RUU ROMS and OTA Update URLs - xda-developers ) i just need to run it on my computer and it will install it on my desire or do i need to do something more (pressing next and something like that doesn't count as something more) oh, and if i download this one RUU_Bravo_HTC_Europe_1.15.405.3_Radio_32.30.00.28U _4.05.00.11_release_121865.exe is this the one i need?

Just click on the ruu file make sure you have usb debugging enabled too.
This is a better one as its also a later one too

RUU_Bravo_HTC_WWE_1.21.405.2_Radio_32.36.00.28U_4. 06.00.02_2_release_126984_signed.exe

i don't know, if i did something wrong, but in the middle of the install, it said, that it can't recognise my phone or something like that and i pressed only button "exit" then, my pc rebooted, my desire's screen showed some text on white background, with three green droids at the bottom and after that, just white htc is written on the screen. Should i open the RUU again or do something with phone?
