I had this happen to me over the weekend. I kept trying to enable wifi and it found nothing. I did a hard reset (at least I think it was a hard reset) and that did fix the issue. The reset didn't touch most of my app file or my stuff on my SD card. My contacts were gone, my google account settings were gone and all my apps were gone. So I had to re-install a bunch of stuff but I'm back in business.

I reseted the phone by opening the settings application, choosing the privacy option and then choosing "Factory data reset".

I had the same thing happen to me and had to do a hard reset. At the time i didnt have titanium backup but now i do. Titanium backup would make the process much easier

I've had this happen a few times, especially with Gingerbread. Have you tried pulling the battery? That usually fixed it for me. I believe the Wifi gets turned off by Android (sleep mode), and it never really turns back on. You can set Wifi not to sleep in settings, or use Wifi Lock.

Wifi Lock

If you still need to do a factory reset, go into recovery mode: With phone off, hold volume + and volume - and keep holding them; hold power until you see the AT&T logo; let go of power but keep holding the volume buttons; the phone should boot into recovery after that. Use the volume keys to navigate to "factory reset" and press power to select. Confirm by selecting "yes." This will erase all contents in internal storage: Market apps, app data, account data.

If you're rooted I recommend using Titanium Backup to backup your apps and app data. If you have a lot of apps, it's worth getting the paid version for batch install. There are backup apps that will work without root as well, but you must be rooted to backup app data, regardless of which app you choose to do it.

Yes, we had the same thing happen with two different Androids. A factory reset was my last resort and it worked on the phone I just tried it on (nothing else worked, like pulling the battery, FixMyWifi, taking security off the router, etc.)!

Wish I knew what caused the problem! I hope it doesn't keep happening!
