What and where is the "Browser".

Amber waves of grain.
What and where is the "Browser".

I've been asking for help on other topics, and the responses refer to the Browser, ie. in browser select menu...", and I do not find the options that are supposed to be there.

The browsers I am familiar with on my pc are IE, and the various Mozilla based browsers and suites, and I know how to get to them on my computers. Apparently, this phone is different. I have been getting on the net and saving bookmarks on my HTC EVO 4G by selecting the icon in Apps. that looks like a globe and is labeled "internet". Respondents tell me this is not the browser, but haven't told me what or where is the browser.

So, can someone clear this up and tell me what and where is the "Browser" on this phone ?

Thanks

I agree with you. I thought the globe icon labeled "internet" was the net, but, since I am new to this phone, I asked for help, and I was misinformed that this icon was not the "browser", and that I needed the "browser". I searched the phone menus for "Browser", but no luck. Thanks for reaffirming that the icon is the access to the net, and that the "browser" stuff is fruitless.

Actually, like windows or any other OS, the word 'browser" can refer to both an internet browser (IE, Chrome, FireFox) or the Explorer browser which you use to search for files or other folders. Most of the time, they're referring to the Internet browser.

You're correct on both of those applications of the term "browser", but my original queries were all about access to the net, and not folders, and I was getting some telling me that the Globe icon labeled "internet" was not the net "browser", when, of course, it is the only access to the net on this phone.

Some have missed the point. I was accessing the net using the Globe icon labeled "internet", and was told that I should not use that icon, but instead, use the "browser", so that I would get the correct menu options. So, apparently to some, other than this icon, there is another way to access the net, which they termed "browser".

There is not.

No reasonable person, let alone a significant number of respondents in this forum, would say that. You either misunderstood or are exaggerating.

Did whoever told you that have an Evo or another Android phone? My Samsung Moment does not have an Internet icon. It has a Browser icon.

i finally catch a thread before it is closed.

I want to say.. this is ridiculous!!!
what has happened? lately in the last few weeks.. why are all these threads being closed or moved or merged???

and half of them.. i do not see any big issues... a few good nature puns or jabs... but nothing dangerous...

this is starting to feel like very odd here!!!

Oh I totally agree 110%. I got put on probation for bitching about all the thread closures and thread movements. I mean you can't find anything here any more and there is no way to know where it was moved to. This forum is getting ridiculous.

exactly, I read that thread too, and he doesnt understand the difference between the bookmarks widget and bookmarks in the browser. Lets just close the thread and let this guy think what he wants to think.

PEOPLE! When someone asks for help give him the help he needs not some snotty sarcastic BS answer. No reason to close this thread. The question was simple and FunDroid answered it nicely.

There is.

You can access the internet via the bookmarks WIDGET, or the internet browser APP SHORTCUT. Both of these will access the internet, and once within the browser application (which both will take you to) you can access and change the BROWSER APP's bookmark settings from grid, list and thumbnail view within that application. Your other posts were not very clear (since you did not indicate SHORTCUT or WIDGET) on what you wanted to accomplish, hence the confusion.

I would refer you to post number 12 of this thread, please take the time to interprete it in all facets, how it might apply to you, general readers and other participants in this and other related threads. Once that task has been performed, you could follow it up with further search of the threads related to this one and perhaps finally come to a fruitful understanding.

Or maybe not.
