I am so glad I purchased a case for my Desire and it showed its worth today!

I am a bit OCD when it comes to looking after things. I keep my house spotless and keep everything nice and clean. As a result, getting a decent case for my Desire was a must.

I've had my Desire for a few months and the case served its purpose for the first time today. The missus and I got out of the motor (me carrying lots of shopping bags!) and my Desire fell out of my pocket onto the road.

I was dreading what state my Desire would be in, and gave it a very thorough inspection when I got into my house.

There was no damage at all to the Desire, and very minimal damage to the case which is hardly noticeable!

The case is one of the flexishield ones from ebay, and it's warranted its

I too am a bit OCD.

I am to be getting my HTC Desire in about a week and a half in the USA. I already have on hand:

Noreve Case http://www.noreve.com/langue/en/product/Housse_cuir_HTC_Desire_-_HTC_Bravo_Tradition.html

Samsung 8gb Class 6 MicroSDHC Samsung 8GB Micro SDHC PLUS High Speed memory card Class 6: Amazon.co.uk: Computers & Accessories

The ZAGG invisibleSHIELD http://www.zagg.com/invisibleshield/htc-desire-cases-screen-protectors-covers-skins-shields.php

A car charger and my data transfer USB Cable...

Yes, I'm OCD and I'm waiting for my US Release on US Cellular next week in the USA.... Coming from a Blackberry Curve 8330. I always wanted an iPhone, but where I live the reception of AT&T it was never practical. Finally with Android I am getting a decent SmartPhone!

Cheers to all...

Unless I'm missing something; all I need to do is plug it in. I place my phone each evening on my night stand and plug it in. Opening the latch and having the flap open on my night stand doesn't appear to be a problem; it appears I will be able to charge just fine and doesn't appear to be to complicated.

Regards.

I bought a "leather" flip case; the phone clips into a moulded back piece, and a front cover flip up and a magnetic clip holds it in place. I use it when I'm carrying it then take the phone out when I'm at home or work.

I tried a gel case and protector, but I didn't like them, I wasn't convinced the protector was anything more than a sheet of plastic, offering zero protection should the screen get knocked.

How thick is the gel? I haven't seen any myself, but I'm just assuming that the "gel" ones would give more cushion. The more cushion, the more protection..?? But I guess not..ey?

A gel case on the phone increases the distance over which the phone decelerates and spreads the force over a larger area, which lowers the forces on the phone at the point of impact. But not by much. It'll be enough to defend against cosmetic damage and will effectively cushion small drops or drops onto soft surfaces, but if you drop your phone onto something hard you could be in trouble, gel case or no.

The screen protector on the other hand is an inflexible bit of plastic purely designed to stop mild scratches. it will provide next to no impact protection.
