Should I go back to the tour?

I do like the hero, a lot. but a couple things are driving me nuts:

-dust under glass
-application lag
-email lag
-typing lag
-overall lag
-'tinny' sound

I feel like I'd be going backward, but I just dont know what to do. I love the idea of the phone, but its just way under powered. I grab my ipod touch, and loathe its smoothness.

I had the pearl before, but I just dont know (I wish sprint had the storm 2). I am going insane!

what should I do?

Why didn't you just buy an iPhone?

Not to be a jerk but I really don't understand posts like this. What do you want us to do, beg you to stay? If the phone does not work for you and you believe that in the end you will be unhappy then return it and get what you want - it's that simple.

Personally I don't have much lag compared to smartphones I've had in the past. I have one speck of dust under the screen and only see it when the phone is off - if I look for it. When your typing the phone does not mistype anything it just displays on the screen what you input into it. It's a user problem not a phone problem. You might be able to adjust to the soft keyboard or you might not be able to. I was able to adjust in a matter of minutes; but everyone is different.

If you really want the storm 2 then get it. If that's the device that is going to make you happy then maybe you can justify Verizon. Or you could try the Droid, The Moment, Touch Pro 2.

These are not really difficult decisions in life.

I am hoping someone will post up ideas I have not though of before, to get me thinking...like your post. :)

I dont know what will make me happy.

Lies...well, I've played with other smartphones, so i know its better than most, but its not what it should be.

I work in a profession where my competition is selling what is better; i sell whats best (and, in my line of work, its not opinion, its fact).

You should never settle for what is simply 'better than before'...it should be 'the best there is'.

There will be more...you know it too.

I guess the iPhone doesn't have user problems?

i looked at the droid...yuk. I have an awesome plan with sprint, so I really dont want to leave the network.

These are not really difficult decisions in life.
You would think not. You should have seen how long it took to decide on my car...and im still not happy.

My house, took 15 minutes to decide. ugh.

This post is funny to me. I got the Tour in July, went through 4 of them before I got fed up with the crappy build quality (or maybe I have the worst luck in the world and kept getting defective ones).

In any event, I do a ton of messaging and switched to the Hero. I've never been happier. I love this phone and would never go back to the antiquated blackberry with its terrible browser.

My gf has a Storm and, honestly, that's the only blackberry I could ever remotely see myself using again.

the dust under the screen is the only real issue im aware of. all the other stuff is perceived. you think this phone is laggy? try a pre. BTW, BB interfaces are just so dated and annoying to navigate through. this phone REALLY isnt laggy. my typing lag went away when i turned off haptic feedback. tinny? what? also, check out swype coming to android soon. you may love typing again on a touchscreen.

lol blackberry

I just got done showing my friend the Hero because they are debating leaving AT&T

I showed them the dolphin browser...I opened it, did my New Tab gesture, opened google, went back did my Select Text gesture, went to the google tab pasted the text into the search field, while doing this I received a new text and an email at the same time, went to the notification bar real quick, read my email, deleted the email, went back to the notification bar, read the text, responded, then opened the browser to see the search I did, opened that page and read the news I searched for, I then closed the dolphin browser, went to my homepage, opened the weather forecast real quick, we talked about the forecast, then I went to the next screen to look at the date for Monday, then went to the next screen played a song from my music widget real quick, while that was playing I showed them the badass picture album widget and threw away pictures and them brought them back, then I went to my contact list updated my friends profile so it was linked to their facebook profile (all while the 3:30 song was playing), then I closed that paused the song, opened youtube played the first video, showed them normal quality vs high quality (obvious wow reaction), closed youtube, hit the end button and walked away to them talking to themselves about the exact amount they would be saving (they are an iphone user)

all the while I was doing this I do not recall any lag, if there was we are talking 1-3 seconds, but that was rare

I love this fkn phone

Just curious, how many apps from the Market did you install?

My App List:

Dolphin Browser
Handcent SMS
Google Sky
Astro File
Photoshop
Bar Control
Anycut
opera
Shop Savy
Spare Parts
Where
Pandora
Wikitude
Ringdroid
Wallapapers
Reality Browse
eBuddy
Labrynth
Fake Call Me
Shazaam
Mileage
Facebook
Battery Widget
Depth of Field Calc

I just did a factory reset and have no apps on the phone or widgets running...with all the apps installed i had 89 meg free, now I have 140 and the phone is quick...well, quick enough.

I just got to thinking, if I jumped to the tour, I wouldnt have any apps anyway, so, how quick would it be without apps.

I'm still not happy. For those who say you have no lag, place your phone next to an iPhone, and say that again with a straight face.

I showed my phone to my friend with an iPhone. He got one 3 days later and hasn't looked back.

Do you have the firmware update?
Are you using the "People" widget?

Those 2 items alone will be speed limiting.

yes

/quote]
yes

This is the first I have heard about the people widget slowing down the phone...isnt this infused into the phone? like contacts and such? how do i disable this?

I LOVE the phone interface, i HATE the sluggishness.

I love this feedback though, I will stick with my device if we can speed this puppy up!

ive never had any problems with lag on my phone what so ever, like the others said you might want to get rid of the "people" widget and see what happens. i have no dust under my screen some people say the heros that have "with google"(mine does) on the back are the newer hereos (they could be worng) im guessing they fixed that issue i could be wrong tho.

all in all this post is kinda pointless cause if you have your mind made up on what u wanna do then just do it and dont look back. but 9 times out of 10 there will be a true update from htc to fix all of the "lag" and bettery issues with the phone. from my experiance with the phone thus far its worth the wait for a update cause i would never go back to my bb tour.

Straight face here! I have about 10 apps installed and have zero lag and have never experienced it with this phone. I did a side by side comparison with a brand new iPhone owned by one of my work mates and there was no difference using touch gestures.

Realize too that this is only version 1.5 of Googles OS. HTC/Google/Sprint did a damn fine job with this phone.

That is really beside the point. Sounds like you would be much happier with the tour.

I just want my hero with iPhone like responsiveness. Is that too much to expect?

That is asking a Pinto to have the performance of a corvette.

The iPhone has faster hardware than the hero, but you want the hero to work as fast as something that is indeed faster.

Yes, that is too much to expect.

But, the iPhone only runs one app at a time. So remove all your widgets, and only run one application at a time. It will be as snappy as the iPhone, but then you are limiting your capabilities.
