is the O2 Desire heavily branded?

I heard that the orange Desire has various orange apps and changes to the browser and maps etc. as well as a boot screen.

Is the O2 desire branded at all other than a boot screen?

If it is, what have they done and how hard is it to undo?

Nope. Its pretty clean.
Actually, call into the shop and ask to see one before you buy it; all the stores should've gotten demos

But because i havent seen a stock, un-molested Desire in the flesh yet, Im not sure what to look for to see if anything is missing or changed.

Guess the O2 sales assistant would know if I asked him... maybe...

what shall I check? the browser and maps, google features, Installed apps, anything else?

Yep... just the boot screen.
There isn't anything else on the phone; menu or anything thats branded... the browser loads with o2 active, but that's easy changed!
Any questions, lettuce know!

Just for the record, on the Virgin Mobile Desire, there is also a boot up logo, a widget link on the home screen (easily deleted) and some .mp3's on the supplied 4GB Micro SD card but I think that's about it - hard to know without seeing one on another network.

i upgraded through a carphone warehouse o2 contract and they sent me an unlocked sim free version. no o2 branding or programs present anywhere.

I did the same thing except on an Orange contract. Ordered through Carphone Warehouse and got an unbranded, unlocked phone.

Nothing to worry about - does make you wonder why it's taking them to long to update to froyo!

Ive only noticed the boot screen saying O2 on mine

got mine from o2 was ment to be sim free and stuff but had the o2 logo on startup and three bears tone. no biggie, rooted it now and very happy with it. could be worse after what other networks put on phones.

I got an o2 branded phone, not heavily branded at all, though the update to 2.2 wasn't available... So I debranded using the guide of this page:

It's the clearest guide I've seen so far, literally step by step...

In my experience (quite varied, mainly with Nokias, but many other manufacturers too over the years) o2 are generally the best network work mucking around with the software/firmware... Orange are definitely the worst, with Vodafone coming in a close second...
