Root KiNgxKernel #6 HAVS

how does havs work?

Also, a little info on HAVS and AVS:

The purpose of HAVS is to minimize the power used by the CPU by determining
and setting the optimal voltage. At the same time, the maximum voltage by
which HAVS can scale to is fixed to a specified voltage depending on the
CPU frequency in order to prevent scaling to a higher voltage than what is
normally used at a specified voltage. The optimal voltage is actively determined
for each frequency and temperature. HAVS actively adjusts the CPU voltage as the
CPU frequency and temperature changes.

It's developments like this that make me feel very fortunate to be part of the Evo community. Our phone is so root-friendly, and because of that, we're able to achieve things with our phone that may never be possible with other android-based phones. (I'm looking at you, Droid X).

So I just spent some time reading through this kernel's thread. Seems like the kernel devs do a lot of code sharing. For example, the creator of this kernel just incorporated all of netarchy's FPS work into his kernel.

netarchy was the one that did a lot of the pioneering work getting the FPS uncapped for the two types of screens (epson and nova). And most custom kernels and ROMs have incorporated this work. So I suspect that we'll start seeing HAVS get incorporated everywhere soon enough.

It's great to see that level of collaboration.

This just makes me cry over my unrooted EVO... damn you OTA 2.2 update

Some people over XDA r not to happy with it,they claiming to be anything but a battery life saver.I haven't try it and I don't think I will.Cyanogen snapv7 its been nothing but good to me.

yeah it seems like he needs to polish and refine a little bit. But definitely something to keep an eye on. I['m hoping to see netarchy incorporate the HAVS code into his kernel.

Hopefully it wont take to long for him to incorporate it and must likely Cyanogen will right after him or before.Who knows. But its coming, he deff opened a door for our good devs over XDA to incorporate this and develop a kickass Kernel.

its worth pointing out that it seems that using setcpu in conjunction with this kernel leads to bad battery drain. dont take my word for it, i read the first 30 pages then the last 20 so i might have missed something

Yeah, that kernel evolved quite a bit since the 3 days he started the thread. I think the battery issue is resolved. But the ironic part is HAVS is supposed to give us better battery life!

Just remember, if you do a nandroid backup before you flash it, you have nothing to fear. You're one restore from going back to where you were.
