Hey guys.....

A different thought of the legal war between Oracle and Google over Android....

Oracle's suit against Google has one clear winner: Microsoft. With Google's Android tied up in litigation, and Oracle becoming the latest villain in the open source community, Microsoft has a chance to make inroads in the mobile market and elsewhere.

makes sense really, but Android will beat this surely its to big, depends how the lawyers see it. How many times have Sony been sued because of stuff like this with patents.

Yeah I don't see this going anywhere to be honest. And I don't see the handset makers like HTC or Motorola who's raking in the cash because of Android (finally an OS to match and surpass Apple) simply dropping it for something that's not only unknown but is not free. Call me crazy, but that isn't going to happen. Google will either fight, tying this up in court for years (while Android sails on as usual) or settle (doubtful).

But don't you think when a OS is struck in legal net, and suppose it is struck there for long, the hardware manufactures would look at an alternative. If such a scenario arises, do you think that Microsoft would be an onlooker of the legal game??

If I'm there at Microsoft, I would definitely increase the sales of my product gaining the advantage from the lawsuit wind!

After all, Oracle will be the anti-hero here.......

MS actually could be a big winner in this....just not in mobile. I don't think Oracle has much of a case against Android from looking over the filing and reading opinions and licenses. However no matter what Oracle does now the entire Java community will crumble. It was a terrible miscalculation on their part to forget that Java can't even function without the countless open source projects that make it go from servers to class libraries. The open source community is now pissed at Oracle and the current questions for many seems to be what 100% open language can we reform around or should we build a new one. In the meantime that leaves the .Net platform as the strongest enterprise platform. With that MS could literally squeeze Oracle out of a lot of business by no longer supporting Oracle databases or ******ing performance while promoting the combo of .Net and SQL server. Oracle really shot themselves in the foot...and to think their dream wast to promote a full stack equivalent to MS. Now they just gutted their stack of a programming platform and developers.

Just to give a heads up....

Windows does have an Mobile OS. The latest stable version is Windows Mobile 6.5. Samsung Omnia II is carrying this OS.

Yeah but hardly anyone wants 6.5 anymore and 7 hasn't proven itself yet. I do see the various handset makers cautiously testing the waters with 7 but abandoning Android? - not anytime soon.

But if you think in a different way..... Microsoft could make use of this situation....


Apple does not give out their iOS to any manufactures.... RIM is on verge of loosing their business in many of the countries....and if the Android is locked up in legal suit for ever, manufactures of Smart Phones will look at Windows Mobile as an option for sure.... Learning a lesson from Android, Microsoft would definitely improve it's OS due to increasing demand as well...

Just out of interest, what impact will this lawsuit have on the upcoming Chrome OS? Android and Chrome are supposed to converge over time, so don't they share similar architecture? Or will the java patents not apply here??

Even though Google did nothing wrong, I think this will be the case.

Yeah I don't think a lawsuit between Oracle and Google is going to stop people from doing the Aaaassssshhhhhhh Urrrrgh sound when someone brings up that a phone is Windows Mobile. If I could count the number of times I have heard that sound followed by you don't want that one it is Windows Mobile. In some cases really great phones hardware wise get that yeah but it's Windows Mobile. I don't see that getting better. For some odd reason people want Windows on their desktop but they want Linux on their phone, or some Unix based apple product as if.

Yeah I was recently in the T-mobile store to pay my bill... and the salesman was helping a customer who had no clue when it came to smart phones.... she was comparing the Vibrant (Android) and the HD2 (windows mobile)... the lady was saying she wanted the hd2 when the salesman quickly responded with "both phones are the same price I would recommend the Vibrant." the lady said why the HD2 has a bigger screen. He responds with yes it does but it has windows mobile apposed to Android like the Vibrant and Android is far better.
needless to say she left with the Vibrant due to it having Android rather than WM.
