traded N1 for Vibrant....starting to regret

About 3 weeks back, I traded my mint Nexus One for a Samsung Vibrant. I am starting to regret the trade. The Vibrant's screen is incredible. It still is on 2.1 but 2.2 is supposedly coming soon (never know with Samsung).

Here's why I'm regretting the deal - the Vibrant is really buggy. At least once a day it will lock up on me to the point I just need to either do a battery pull or just set it down for a few moments to let it settle. The touchscreen lags at times as well. Also, no flash for the camera?

I have reset the phone a couple of times. I have also deleted some apps to see if they were causing the issues. I know it's not just my Vibrant because I have seen some other posts with these sorts of issues.

I never had a single issue with the Nexus One. It's rock solid. It get's updates quickly since it's the developer phone.

Should I hold onto the Vibrant? Would my issues be resolved by the 2.2 whenever that comes out? Is the difference in hardware really that important? I found the Nexus to be fantastic speedwise even though I constantly hear on the Vibrant forum about how much better the processor is in the Vibrant.

I have someone who offered me a mint Nexus for my Vibrant and I am very tempted to do it.

Well you CAN wait for Samsung to update the Vibrant to 2.2, supposedly somewhere in September and see if the update speeds the phone up.

IF it's the AT&T N1...I'd jump on the offer since you can't get them in 'mint condition' now. But from what you wrote, it seems like you answered your own question already, lol

I would not count on Samsung to update anything to 2.2... They are NOTORIOUS for not supporting their devices once they hit retail. Best bet is wait for the CM team to port CyanogenMod to the device.

You'll have to root, but that's cake now.

I have one and I like it, but I don't LOVE it like my Nexus One.

You never know...look at HTC...there were so many users complained about HTC draging their feet to get thire phones updated from 1.6 to 2.1...it took them what over 4 months before they started to update their phones. Now, going from 2.1 to 2.2, it took HTC less than 2 months. So I see that a a great improvement!

I think even if i get a new phone, I'll never get rid of my Nexus One...just because it's with AT&T and that model has been discountinued...so I really have a 'rare' phone

It's a T-Mobile one which is fine since that's what I use.

I know they keep talking about the Vibrant's hardware being superior but is it really that big of a deal?

Am I wrong is guessing that the Nexus will be supported longer than the Vibrant?

Well with the Nexus One, you can be 100% sure you'll get Gingerbread (3.0?) when Google releases it. With the Vibrant...you'll have to wait until Samsung...and then Tmo releases it. Both phones have very similar specs, 1Ghz processor and 512RAM (Vibrant having more ROM makes that part better than the N1). The vibrant hardwares are better than the N1, but they aren't WOW hardwares with drastic improvement that'd make me jump ship. I'm not a big gamer so, the Vibrants graphic processor doesn't really make me go giddy. If you're a big big gamer, then stick with the Vibrant...except you're saying that your Vibrant is slower than your Nexus....lol. You really should have tested out the vibrant before you traded it for your Nexus

I actually did try the Vibrant before. Don't get me wrong, the phone is great but I think the N1 may be better because of it's stability.

Can anyone give me an educated guess on whether 2.2 would be the cure to all these ills?

You really can't compare a 2.1 phone to a 2.2 phone, so I would wait. And to those saying don't count on Samsung: Samsung confirms Galaxy S will get Froyo in September -- Engadget

True, things change, just going by the past. I am sure if there is enough momentum they'll get on it, however, the past is all one can go by.

Either way, my issue with any other Android device is that it will still have their crappy UI and carrier bloatware.

I like my "Vanilla" Android phone. Although, as the Vibrant can be rooted and CM team is working on a ROM, should be a good phone then.

I actually got a chance to play with a vibrant for a weekend, showed it to my friends who are all nexus owners and we came to this conclusion. The phone itself is not bad the screen was amazing the size was actually not bad (i personally fell 4inch screen might be my sweet spot between to big and just right), once you load a home replacement its workable. The problems with the phone were the lack of a notification led, flash, and trackball controls for text editing. Not to mention the lack of trust for samsung and their updates. Heres the thing we all agreed this was a descent phone at a lower price point 550$ for this phone was too much because in all honesty it felt cheap and plasticy, the light weight of the phone might be seen as a plus by some, but it just felt cheap and toy like. When i hold my nexus one it feels like quality the metal body and glass screen feel great and i know that it was worth every penny. The galaxy s/vibrant would have been a better sell at 300$. I know some will say oh its only 199$ with a 2 year but we all know that you end up paying more with the 2yr contract deal. Thats my .02

- vanilla Android, no stupid tampering of a nice OS
- tons of rom options
- GPS works

Vibrant Pros:
- Vibrant screen is awesome
- more internal memory
- newer model

I grabbed the Vibrant because it was the "latest and greatest". I am guessing the N1 will still be chugging along when the next "latest and greatest" overtakes the Vibrant. I'm certain people will be buzzing about some other Android phone by Christmas.

This is the phone I'll be jumping on if the rumored GPU specs are accurate. Whether it's dual core doesn't matter as long as it matches or betters the hummingbird processor spec for spec. What it boils down to is that Samsung makes great multimedia-centric devices yet they the neglect the core functions of what a smartphone is, which is what HTC does admirably.

I would love the power of the Vibrant but just not wrapped up in Samsung's crummy offerings. They can't be trusted when it comes down to something as important as software upgrades.

I ended up doing the trade and I am pleased. Again, the Vibrant's a great phone but the N1 is better overall. I am going to wait for a HTC product to come around next time I "upgrade".

If you root your phone and install a vanilla ROM, you will have to flash a new recovery, that makes it non-eligible for OTA updates. Of course, this is not a totally BAD thing...

Cyanogen team is working on bringing a Froyo build from source to the Vibrant (Galaxy S). This will be a mostly plain build with a few tweaks and enhancement.

Then Gingerbread comes out, they will be working on that, but rest assured, you won't get it the day it hit the air, but they will get it out sooner than Samsung!!!

I wouldn't really worry about ROM support for the Vibrant. It's a Galaxy S phone and it's available on ALL major carriers in the US. ALL of them. I assure you, the dev community will take very good care of the phone.
