Accessories Battery - Compatible?

You also need to be careful with Samsung phones. I think they use some type of special chip so if you use a non-Samsung battery, your phone will not turn on and recieves an error. I read about it while I was looking for an extended battey for a samsung moment and came upon a forum that discussed this. I'm not sure if the Epic will be the same situation tough.

I heard if you use any non-Samsung headset the phone will automatically call home and set off an intercontinental biological weapon and point it at your house.

Put your tin foil hat on! I've been using my Moment with an after-market battery for ages the only reason it wouldn't work is if you got a bad battery.

Lol

But seriously, I have heard the same about using a non-samsung battery. I think it is more of a rumor than anything else. Plus there are many after market options, they wouldn't be there if they didn't work.

Funny to see someone trolling and insulting someone when Ctomessli is actually relaying a known fact verifiable on xda.

The Epic has the same checking routine as several otehr Samsungs and will check for battery compliance and will not work properly with a battery out of tolerance. I have bought 8 batteries on ebay (I have three epics) and two are far enough out of spec (high voltage) for the Epic to report "battery is not connected."

Google +samsung +"battery is not connected" and you will see this is a fact.

That said, most batteries on ebay appear ok (although they are genially about 1200 ma as opposed to ful 1500 claimed), and on the good side, since Samsung specifically does have a protection routine, the risk from using genrics, or even fakes, is very low.
