A Sprint Hero - Android 2.0 Challenge

Can anyone provide a link to any forum post (in any forum), blog, tweet, article, news release, or any other communication by an official Sprint representative or spokesperson which states (or even suggests) that the Sprint Hero will be getting an Android 2.0 upgrade?

I chose the Sprint Hero over the Verizon Droid because I read that the Hero would be getting the 2.0 upgrade. After the fact, I realized that all those claims were for the Hero in a generic sense, but I can't seem to find one single statement or even a suggestion from any official Sprint source that they are even considering the upgrade for the Sprint Hero.

And this concerns me. I have exactly 5 days left to decide whether I want to keep my Hero or return it and keep shopping and that decision will sure be a lot easier to make if there wasn't that nagging suspicion, however remote, that we'll ultimately be stuck with a patched up v.1.5.

So how about it? Has anyone seen any official word from Sprint about this upgrade? Anywhere? Can you provide a link?

How do some people sleep at night? I get the feeling they would never fall asleep for constantly needing to get up to make sure they didn't leave the stove on, or to go check on that dripping sound so they don't wake up to a flooded house, or...

HTC says 2.0 for Android. If your neuroses isn't sated by that then return the phone.

I am, plainly, getting tired of reading these forums to find a million and one "I'm taking it back if..." threads, some due to paranoia, some to flat out absurdity (5,000 contacts anyone?).

When does a carrier EVER say anything about updates. It's not their job/business. If they say yes and HTC says no...guess who wins. The Hero currently has some noteworthy known issues, so it's not seen it's last MR, and if they have to carrier test one or two more MR's judging by what we've seen so far that second MR will be the 2.0 update, which requires no less effort (they go through the whole thing) than an MR.

Will they drag their feet like I assume they did with the MR...*shrug*

But can we PLEASE stop the threads talking about "should I take it back"...at this point I'd say yes as a default answer just so I don't have to hear it anymore. Makes anything technical HARD to find in the sea of tripe.

No official word from Sprint, though HTC has stated that Android 2.0 w/ Sense is being rolled out to all Hero versions. It's up to Sprint to decide how/when they want to roll it out. Also, you might have better luck at Sprint's official Hero forum. One of the Admins over there has referred to Android 2.0 in the past, but again...no official word. It's just a matter of time IMHO...either direct from Sprint or via one of the custom ROMs.

FWIW, I talked to an advanced tech guy from Sprint about an issue I was having with the phone rebooting itself and he told me (without me asking) that 2.0 will be available after the begining of the year and most issues with the Hero should be fixed, so hang in there guys :)
Although it's second-hand information, this is the most encouraging thing I've heard from the Sprint people.

Thanks for passing that on.

Thank you. It's as if you opened up a window and I'm now breathing fresh air. The whole "I'm taking this phone back" is getting really old. "5 days left" and "5000 contacts" to boot.

Happy turkey day all.

I hate to say this, but I'M a tech guy for Sprint (that's not the part I hate), and we don't know any more about updates that the average, non-sprint, non-tech guy user. Why people shoot off their mouths about things they have NO KNOWLEDGE ABOUT (that's the part I hate), I'll never know.

Nathan, This is what he told me, I didn't even ask about 2.0, and I have no reason to lie. I am sure he put some notes on my account when I called.

I am glad you guys check the forums to stay connected with your customers concern, for me I am very happy with my Hero and Sprint service, keep up the good work

All the best.

Thanks for the kudos. The company is truly invested in improving customer service. And its a passion of mine.

I certainly did not mean to say you were lying. In fact I shouldn't even say that your tech was lying... so I withdraw that comment. What I should have said was, "if thats a real release timeline, its not common knowledge @ Sprint".

It's something that happens a lot... (people speaking out of turn), and I wish it didn't.

I know that everyone is anxious for 2.0 with Sense. I too am anxious, but I would rather have HTC work out all the kinks, bugs, etc before a release. If they get it right the first time all existing issues should be fixed and everyone will be a lot happier. :D

I agree. Let them work out all the bugs before they send it out to us. :)

The MR from 11/18 fixed most things tot he point where I can wait on 2.0 for a couple of months.

Back in late October I contacted HTC about a 2.0 update for the HTC Hero. Here is their response via email:
