Help Low on Space notification

I continue to get a Low on Space Notification and am unable to download apps.

How do i get rid of this and how do I move items stored on the phone to the SD card. It appears that I have a lot of space available there.

Is there any way to move videos/pictures to the SD card?

Dont install hundreds of apps. The internal memory is only used for apps.

Get a bigger card. The default is 8GB, which isn't much.

Then, as suggested, download less apps or make sure that the apps you do download have SD support.

Did you all say that all photos and video that i take are stored on the SD?

delete apps that can run on the card and then reinstall them on the card. unless you can move them, than move them.

Yes, they're in a folder called DCIM/100MEDIA on the sdcard.

As a basic user, you will _not_ be able to do things to the phone's internal memory other than to basically install or uninstall apps.

If you haven't already done so, you want to get the ASTRO File Manager free in the Market - there are other file managers, they're great too, but start with ASTRO - you can use it to familiarize yourself with your card's layout.

With ASTRO - you can use to freely backup your installed apps to the SD card. It sounds like you've started to hoard apps - so back 'em up using ASTRO and then do as others are telling you -

1. If you are running 2.2, you go (from your phone desktop) to Menu -> Settings -> Applications -> All (tab), you can click on each app you've installed and if the developer allowed for it, you tap a button to move the app to the sd card.

2. Start deleting apps that seemed like a good idea at the time - don't worry about what if you need it again and what if you can't find it again in the Market - ASTRO's backup will let you re-install any, all or onesie-twosie.

If you're unsure if you're running 2.2, you find that out under Menu -> Settings -> About phone -> Software information

you should be getting a little icon in your notification bar. Bull down the bar, select the low on space warning and sort by size.

I ran into the same problem on my wife's hero and it was caused by facebook. Contacts were duplicating themselves at an alarming rate, and when I sorted by size, the contacts file was 50+ MB, it is less than 2MB on my hero and less than 1MB on my EVO.

I'm not saying this is your problem, but it's worth looking into

Everyones response is correct here. I received the low on space message in my notification bar about 3 weeks ago. I did a hard reset and started over. I had too many apps installed. I still have a lot but I have at least 215MB of Internal Phone Storage. So I guess thats not so bad. Don't download apps you will not use.

I've done all the above and still getting low internal phone storage warnings. 180K is what the phone shows.

Stock Sprint EVO, no apps installed. 2.2 OS.

I synched my Facebook which downloaded all my friends (535 friends worth) info. Is this what swamped the phone storage? I've had the phone 2 weeks and can't believe it's out of internal memory already.

Looking at the apps, Mail app is 336MB, Facebook is 8.5MB and contact storage is 23MB.

I also moved off all the pics I have taken over to my laptop and when I try and take a pic now it says photo storage space is low and I can't take a pic. WTH?

Got the phone back to working, now with 337MB of internal memory. What was hosing up the phone was HTC Mail that was 336MB. I cleared the data for HTC Mail under manage applications and the phone is back to working now.

I'm guessing my 3 POP email accounts I had loaded were swamping the internal memory?????

When you back-up within ASTRO to your SD card, can you install those apps from the SD card, to the SD card? Thus, saving space? Also, will they show up in the market's downloads section for updates?

I had my phone Factory Reset about a month or two ago and have installed only the apps I use all the time.

I have also moved as many as possible to the SD card, and cleared the Data on Apps I don't use as often. Mail is taking up about 20 Mb on Gmail, but other than that, the next biggest apps are 15, 10, 9, 7 mb. Not sure how this is adding up to 400 mb.

Is there something else filling up my internal memory somehow???

some of your apps will use temp cache files that are saved on your internal memory. also text messages can take up some room as well, if you have a lot. also even though you move your apps to the sd card, not all of it is moved. some of it will still stay on your phone. that is why when you move the apps to the card, you can't use any of there widgets.

I only have 18 Apps and I'm getting this notification. I've gone through and deleted a ton of pictures and videos, cleared data on Twitter, and moved what I could to SD. Any other ideas?

I have been receiving the "low storage space" message for a while now, and have made it go away by moving apps to the SD, and clearing data on some apps, especially the default internet app.

However, Gmail has continued to top my list of space hogs, taking 50 mbs, then 60....a couple of days ago, it shot up to 110 mbs. I have no idea how that happened. I have gone online to delete hundreds of emails, but Gmail is still using 110 mbs on my phone.

So my question is, has anyone here used the "clear data" option w/Gmail on their Evo? I just want to be sure before doing that, that it will not will not delete data from Google's servers.

I have removed as many apps as I am prepared to, and moved every app that can be moved, to my SD card (although apps that are moved still seem to take up space on the phone). I don't select my apps based on whether they can be installed on SD, but rather on how important they are for me to use. It's really unacceptable that the Evo has this internal storage shortage issue, a phone like this should have come with at least 2GB as opposed to the 1/2 GB it does come with - or at least there should be an option to expand internal memory.

I "clear data" on Gmail all the time and have never seen anything bad happen.

Go on the android market and download app 2 SD, this will show you all the apps that you have that can be moved to your SD card. Hit the menu but and select move all apps. You don't have to download less apps, whats the point of having a market if you can't use the applications out there!!!

From what I understood the emails from GMail are not stored on your phone. You will notice if you don't have connectivity you will not be able to access your emails; however, the emails from any other mail source out there are stored on your phone (i.e. hotmail or yahoo). If you delete items from your other mailboxes but don't delete them out of your trash it takes up a huge amount of space. I had over 1000 emails on mine that I deleted and it freed up a lot of space.

I have been struggling with this problem almost since I fist got my EVO 4G (original) and have yet to find a workable permanent solution leading me to believe this is a system design flaw.
There is no good reason a user should have to limit the number of apps they download (within reason) or spend as much time as I've spent managing their system/device. This was never a problem with my Palm Pre nor have I seen or heard GSII or III owners complain of the same problem so I don't believe it's an Android specific problem, it must be HTC and/or this particular product.
My next move to solve this problem, until I'm upgrade eligible, will rooting so I can move everything to the SD card. We'll see (crossed fingers) if that solves the problem.
Meanwhile I've become (an unfortunate) expert at 'Factory Reset' then reloading the apps I want and need (pain in the butt), still eventually I know I'll be looking at "Low Storage Warning' at some point in the future.
If anyone knows/has a more reasonable/scientific explanation for why this happens and/or a better more permanent solution, other than the ones already suggested here (Astro, App2SD, etc.) please share.

I have seen this many times with the space issue...it is an issue with some Evo's, even the Evo shift that I have seen.
If you do desire to root, and I'm sure you have found it, but here is the forum for root...
