Accessories Review: Realook Screen Protector

I hear you robo, after 2 weeks with realook, just giving the community other side of the coin of 5 out of 5 perfect review. As I mentioned, head over to the XDA vibrant forum for a little more indepth discussion on this topic. Perhaps Patty "got used" to the sensitivity after a few days, but that's not the case with mine, especially when I have the wife's Vibrant to compare to.

Using a cloth to wipe the screen, you'll noticed the realook requires several more swipes for the finger prints to disappear.

I'm not particularly loyal to any brand, and I'm not bashing the product, and if I run across one that works better, I'll definitely post it here.

Edit: Btw robo, I recommend for you to put it on, pretty simple process, shouldn't take you more than a few minutes. I do think the advantage of having realook on far out weights the risk of damaging the screen (at least for me, since I'm so accident prone ... and please I hope no one will post that vid clip of the Korean guy mashing his Galaxy S ;-)

Here's my a bit more objective take on realook. There's definitely some degradation in the touch sensitivity, especially around the 4 capacitive buttons at the bottom, more so with the home button (this was topic of discussion in the XDA forum where many users experienced the same issue). You'll just have to be a little more deliberate with your touch as oppose to the silky super sensitive bare screen.

It's a finger print magnet, smudge gazoo, and noticeably more difficult to wipe off than the bare screen. After playing with the realook on my phone, and with make up and all, my wife refused for me to install it on her Vibrant. I don't blame her since a direct side by side comparo yielded a pretty conclusive result of what I mentioned above.

That said, realook is still 10X better than the T-mob screen (yuck!), and 20X better than the soft orange peel Zag. I've used both of these products and recommend neither.

I'm fairly rough with my phone so I'll keep realook on & live with it for now and continue to search for something better.

My 2 pieces of the copper.
WOW! I have had none of the issues you cover. No loss of touch sensitivity anywhere, and absolutely no "drag" or pull when I swipe. As I stated earlier it feels as good if not better than the glass alone.

I did work in the cell industry for a while and I have tried pretty much every screen protector there is. From your $35 German beauties to your $5 for 10 eBay specials and I feel this is one of if not the best there is.

I know that with most screen protectors if there is some drag it usually goes away in a couple of days. As far as it being hard to wipe fingerprints off of, I have had no problem with that either.
One or two wipes and they are gone.

Now the makeup is another story I HAVE NEVER seen a bare screen or screen protector that can be wiped free of makeup easily, not even an oleo-phobic screen.

I hope you do find what you are looking for. In my opinion I have found it. This has to be the clearest smoothest screen protector I have EVER used. As I said before I cannot even tell there is one on I am very happy! :D

Thanks again vu, I appreciate all of the info you have posted. no way would I consider your post "bashing." On the contrary, very balanced and honest. After all, you still have one on your phone.

I've been using a light mist of screen cleaner (distilled water and a little isopropyl alcohol) applied first on a microfiber cloth and then lightly across the Vibrant to remove the fingerprints. That combination has been very effective for me.

And I think you have a good point about "getting used to" the decreased sensitivity of the capacitive buttons. Could be the case.

Please do post any new discoveries you may make on this topic. :)

This is why I love forums, both sides of the coin! :D

I'm going to have to put the darned thing on and check it out. This discussion as piqued my curiousity.

I will take your advice and put one on - hopefully today. And yes, I've seen the Korean guy carving and beating up the Galaxy S... I felt nauseous while viewing that.

As for the fingerprints, it isn't hard for me to wipe them off my screen. One wipe on my shirt and they are gone.

As for the 4 capacitive buttons having decreased sensitivity with the Realook on, I think it's going to be hard for someone to precisely describe how "hard" they have to press to activate the button. For me, it takes a very light touch and the phone recognizes it. This might differ for people though.

argh i hope realook sends me a replacement
mine was bent a bit in the top half and resulted in a permanent air bubble

Just got mine and there's a printed insert that says some Vibrant and Captivate shields were bent in shipment. It says if yours has this and doesn't smooth out in a few days, contact them and they'll replace it. Replacements will be available in 2 weeks. So, at least they appear to be responsive.

Anyone apply the camera lens cover? Does it have the two protective covers on it that need to be peeled off like the front shield? If so, how'd you do that?
Yep, it's the same material & make up as the front screen. I took mine off after a few hours, I have the mesh case on my phone providing a gap to protect the lense, and don't want another layer to reduce the clarity of the camera picture.

It has the same front & back protective layers. The side facing the lense has the same tacky sticky layer as the front cover. As I mentioned previously, it's the same material & make up as the front cover.

I use the provided tape as the handle to apply it onto the lense, once again, the same method as you would for the front cover.

Taking if off is simple with a pointy end of the toothpick to lift up the edge.

Have you ever tried the Steinheil Ultra Crystal screen protectors? If so, how would you campare them to the Realooks?

When I mentioned the $35 ones Steinheil was what I was referring to. I have to say I like Real Look a little better and the price is WAY better! Funny thing, I bought my girlfriend and ipod touch case and screen protector from eBay for like $12.

The case was almost identical to a Seidio Innocase and the screen protector was from China, a no name brand. The freaking screen protector was just as good as the Real Look!

Steinheil has a the Ultra Crystal screen protector(2 pack) on their website for $14 + SH. Which mesh case do you have?

Aesthetically, I think it's the best looking case on the market at the moment. The perforated holes somehow made the Vibrant looks so very elegant to me. Also sets it apart from the me too iPhone case look that I see popping at every ebay corners. But without sounding like a broken record, I've already commented on this case here (scroll down to posting #130). ;)

I have the uber sexy metallic red color :p, pics below are courtesy of HoOnZ from XDA forum.

i contacted them through amazon and they said the reason for the dents were the small camera protectors and they would send me a replacement so +1 to customer service and communication

I have a quick question for those of you who have applied the realook screen protector. I noticed on the images on Amazon that they don't have a notch cut out for the sensors at the top ear the earpiece. Have you noticed if this has affected the vibrant's ability to detect whether or not the phone is near your head? i.e. does it still disable the screen when you hold the phone to your ear and then automatically enables it again when you have to use the dial pad to enter numbers?

Phone works normally. Disables the screen near your head, enables when moved away.
