how come some contact numbers in the handcent app come up without dashes

i am using handcent sms and when i hit to compose new message and then type a name, some peoples numbers come up in the format xxx-xxx-xxxx, but others come up xxxxxxxxxx. how come this is and how do i make them all come up with dashes?

I am completely unable to replicate this using the latest Handcent version using a HTC Desire. I do however have a theory...

Are the contacts that come up with dashes in their number directory contacts such as Facebook contacts. I.e. you synced them from somewhere? And the contacts whose numbers appear without dashes, are they contacts you entered directly into your phone?

If so it may be the case that Handcent is merely reading the state of the number as it was supplied to the phone during the sync.

i dont believe so. all the contacts im looking at are synced with my google account, and they have all been entered in by me manually

If they have dashes, chances are they're like that in your phone book.
