Storm to Droid-X (part xxx)

Well today I made the switch from my Storm2 to the Droid X. So far I am digging it, but I have a few questions:

I realize that the Android OS does not allow for sound profiles, but does it have anything akin to "Bedside Mode"?
I soon found out that the stock pop3 email client stank and switched to K-9 and now have all 4 of my pop3 accounts listed. Happy me. However I miss seeing one icon for each mail account. Is there anyway to accomplish this or do I need to get used to it?
I have some favorite ring tones and alarm sounds and would like to get them on my Droid X. How can I do this? USB sync? Just email them to my self from my laptop? What directory should I put them in, MP3?
Call me a hierarchical crumedegon, but I'd rather not see every icon listed alphabetically. So I wanted to create folders and then put like applications in them. I was able to create a folder, but could not rename it (I.e. navigation, media, tools, calculators, etc..). Am I missing something?
I turn off wifi and the GPS functionality until I need them. I don't use live wall papers and no social media apps are running. What else can I do to improve battery life?

As for my initial impressions: This phone is fast. The email client may suck, but displaying of email beat BB hands down. Messaging isnt too bad either but the SMS app could use some work. Finally, the browser; great googly moogly. This thing is a world apart and an improvement over the BB browser. I wouldnt mind social apps like FB if they didnt drain so much power. Short of the long I think I am keeping the Droid X, but will with hold judgment for the next 28 days.

I'm also a Storm to X convert, but couldn't leave the BB tones behind (at least for now until I get bored and create my own)! Here is the link to where I got my tones. Just remember to separate the tones by creating new folders under the '/media/audio' folder of you SD card. I separate mine into Alarms, Ringtones, Notifications and they should show up in each category under settings.

I just switched from the Storm 1 to the X. I was able to locate all of my BB ringtones and some of my wallpapers in higher res to resize for the X (960 x 854). Email, phone and alarm work perfectly with desired ringtone alerts and sounds. I found a Toner app that allows me to select whatever sound I want.

The only thing I miss and could seriously use is a repeating alert for one email account and an LED configuration like the BB for said account. I could set the LED to flash rainbow colors continually on emergency alarms for when I was away from the phone. The X has a far too subtle LED for this purpose, even though it is nice otherwise.

In all other aspects the X is much nicer. I think RIM is falling behind in some important areas while attempting to emphasize their traditional design strengths IMO.

I converted from storm to X as well. I hated the storm and it could be the worse BB they have made. That thing always ran out of memory. I barely had any apps installed on it. That click screen gimmick did more harm than good. One good thing about the BB was the push messaging service. Everything was instant, including things like AIM and FB updates. But the message service is not exclusive to the storm so it really has no advantages as a smartphone over the X. The browser sucked so bad i could never use it unless i really needed to. The only app that was usable and useful was google maps. I could go on and on about how much I hated that phone. The X is such a relief and great phone to use. I can't believe I used a storm for that long.

I'm one of the ones that liked the Storm. Mine did just fine(as long as you watched the app memory...easy to do). Only problem I had with the Storm was a loss of screen sensitivity late in it's life(like about 2 months ago).
I think general messaging was set up better on the Storm but the Droid-x does fine with it.
Browser speed is no contest ;)
Apps for the Droid are better(since you can actually use more than 5 or 6).

But I still like the Storm....especially checking out the weather and being able to SEE ANIMATED MAPS!! One big weakness of the DROID-X and not having Flash(come on Foyo !!)

Lol I had the same issue the last 3 months of my Storms life. In certain areas of the screen I couldn't click on a letter so I had to repeatedly switch from portrait to landscape just to click on that letter.

I agree about the messaging. I do miss being able to select multiple messages and delete at the same time and BBM ofcourse. But until RIM steps up it's game Android has got me locked.

There's not a stock sound profile that I am aware of. There are a couple apps that you can use to accomplish this. I use Quick Profiles and set up four different profiles. Selecting each one changes the wifi, bluetooth, media volume, notification volume, ringer mode and volume, etc.

If I understand you correctly you can use Better Cut to accomplish this, i.e. you want an icon for your Gmail or Yahoo account in K-9 to be to on one of your home screens.

I also use Better Cut to put each of my sound profiles on one of my home screens so I can hit Normal, Work, Car, and Silent profiles when needed with a swipe to unlock and a press to select.

You can do any of them. Personally, I'm using Motorola's Media Link. It is not the fastest but I just need to do basic stuff. If you use Motorola's software your files will be placed in the "mobile" folder on the SD card. Depending on what type of file (.mp3, .mp4, etc.) they will be placed in the folders under "mobile." FWIW, you can place your files anywhere on your SD card and the gallery should find them. The only exception to this that I am aware of is if the folder has a "." as the first character in the name. The gallery won't see these but a file explorer does.

You're not missing anything as there is no stock way of doing this. I would suggest App Organizer. It is very easy and quick to use.

Your display and cell recption. Set it to 50% brightness and have good coverage, simple as that. The main drawback on that is you don't get to show off that wonderful screen when doing this. Other items, check to see when you off-peak hours, and the refresh of any other apps such as email, widgets, etc.

Have you tried Dolphin HD browser? Great app with tabs! I have never owned a Blackberry but coming from my old Moto Q running Win Mobile 5, I never realized I had phone shame until I got my X.
