Ringtones, Notification and Alarm ringtones randomly changing

The reason I KNOW its not me changing these ringtones in all of the assignable designations for media files to be played for the ringtones and such is that I have not a single of my music files within any of these settings as an option to assign in the first place. They are showing up randomly. This morning I awoke to Rock n Roll by Led Zeppelin, and earlier today a friend called my whose ringtone was changed to 99 Red Balloons.

Let me reitterate; I have never assingned a music track as a ringtone, alarm, or notification. The previous ringtone still exists in my library and is functional IE; i can reassign the same ringtone to a person again. I THINK that only ringtones which are NOT DEFAULT are changing. What is going on here? I have lookout AVP app loaded and running at all times.

List on my runnng apps on EVO:
1 Advanced Task Cleaner 2.0; dont roast me; ive read your theories, and am not having a ram leak. But am not ruling out the problem
2 Alarm Clock
3 Google Partner Setup
4 Google Search
5 Google Search Enhanced
6 HTC DM
7 HTC Sense
8 HTC widget download manager
9 Lookout
10 Mail
11 Messages
12 My uploads
13 People
14 Settings
15 Touch Input
16 Updater
17 Voice Dialer
18 Voicemail
19 Weather
20 com.htc
I do have an abundance of navigation (gps, turn by turn, ect), some news, a widget for quick settings (wifi, bluetooth, ringer on/off, gps), Music (shazam, pandora tunee music, The house FM christian radio) Astro file manager, Emulators, facebook integration.

I have noticed some coming on by themselves. Ill try to note when I have done nothing to activate them. Any known problem Apps would be much appreciated.

I had this happen on my desire but happened after I had done some slight tweaks to folder structures on sd card. phone seemed to just pic random songs off the sd card. Have you guys tried setting the ringtone, notification tone through the menus again and seeing if they stick?

Also swingchop is it possible the task cleaner is stopping your default ringtones etc from being activated?

i tried adding some ringtones i made on pc and put them in ringtones folder on sd card but when i went into card didnt have option to use them did i skip or miss a step or is there a certain format they have to be In ? ps sorry this is a rooted samsung moment w/rom

Create folders on the card called Alarms, Notifications, Ringtones to save hassle put them in the structure Media/audio/alarms and so on for the others. I just have the 3 folders created in the root directory of card and it works but some apps create the media/audio file system to save sounds etc in. (the above is for my HTC desire)

huh - i installed the 2.2 update, and all of a sudden, i was getting calls but no ring tones. i just checked, and all my ringtone assignments have been deleted! not just that, but some of the ringtones i created from songs have mysteriously disappeared. what a pita! what is so good in this new version that makes it worth the hassle of resaving and reassigning all these ringtones? makes me wonder - what else isn't working that i just don't know about yet???

I've had exactly the same problem - and the contacts to whom I had assigned custom ringtones didn't even get the default ring, they got no ring at all. ALL of the ringtones that I created have also vanished. I hesitate to recreate them for fear that the next update will do the same thing.

Do any of you know anything about this?
