definitely install the radio 2.15. all you do it drop the radio img on your sd card and install it from recovery mode. i get maximum signal now where as i was only getting 1 bar on radio 1.00.

i'm a big fan of the sense-less rom's adrynaline has put out (check the rom sub-forum). use one of the deodexed versions as well, it will give you the most options for customization down the road.

also, get the latest version of wireless tether that supports ap mode. you can now run screenshot apps, vnc server, busybox... and you can delete any of the bloatware that exists on your device that drives you nuts.

other peeps are into custom boot screens or hacked out notification bars. look around on here and xda forums and you'll find plenty things to do.

unless he has full root (S-off) he will have to unroot, install radio update, then reroot.

I use SkyRaider's Vanilla as well with the 2.15 radio and have had 0 issues, and actually 0 FC in the week I have been using it.
My chomp sms fc'es all the time now :(
I have full root. I gather that means I can just flash the radio update.

But... what happens when 2.2 gets pushed? Shouldn't I keepb he old radio if I want to be able to apply that update?
Pretty sure you can flash the radio even if your not rooted, someone correct me if im wrong. Why would you want to get the "real" 2.2 when you already have it? Then there will be no root. For a long time

I thought that forever root would allow me to put the official 2.2 on when it's released without losing root.

My question about the radio update is related to what happens after 2.2 comes out. I've read over and over that having the wrong radio when 2.2 hits (if you upgrade to it) = bricked phone.

If you are rooted, once the OTA is officially released, wait a little bit for the experts to make a custom ROM and radio from the official OTA for you to flash.

What are all the cool kids doing after that?

The cool kids are wearing these
images
, no seriously...

I have played around with several ROMS - adrynalyne's Second Wave is great, and now the SkyRaider 2.5.2 is amazing...it really feels like a different phone with one of these on it...I also am using the underclock Kernel to see about my battery life...

EDIT: Oh, and this looks and works awesome http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=753156

cool kids are doing smack. But if your not into that, as mentioned, skyraider 2.5.2 vanilla, 2.15 radio with 720hd recording, have fun

I want this, I haven't rooted but waiting for Froyo has put a bad taste in my mouth and I think I'm ready. I've been reading over the official root guide posted on the forum andmany have said a few steps are unnecessary, can someone please give me a short and sweet guide to rooting and getting 2.15 radio with skyraider 2.5.2 vanilla? Thanks :D

Short but sweet, this is what I did after rolling back to stock last week....

Download Unrevoked 3
Run Unrevoked 3
Your rooted, Reboot

Upgrade radio to 2.15.00.07.28, Place on SD card, Go into ClockworkMod recovery, Choose Install from ZIP, Choose File, Reboot

Install Unrevoked Forever by following these directions and placing on your SD card and Choosing Install from ZIP -

Place file from this on SD card, read directions from OP - make sure you do a full wipe before - as Adrynalyne says - Just Dooooo it

I take no responsibility for either telling you what to do nor for the Tsunami in Indonesia. All of this craziness was created by other people who know far more than I ever will about development. As some advice, I just tend to do whatever @Adrynalyne says as he's always right and is the most helpful Android person I have dealt with

Ok, I updated my radio, but I have a question before I try to flash a new rom.

Will I have the ability to go back to the setup I have now without having to go through the whole process of setting it all up again? I've got a bunch of custom icons and stuff put together, and it would be a pain in the ass to have to do it all again.

Also, if I factory wipe, what exactly will titanium or nandroid recover for me?

The titanium back restores all you settings. I installed my first ROM last night and all my settings and icons were exactly the same as before. The only thing was that I had to place all my widgets back on the screens.

if you have s-Off, you can flash it rooted. if you don't have s-off, you have to be UNrooted. there are instructions for unrooting, applying radio update, and re-rooting.
