Root What is the easiest and most idiot proof way of getting Froyo 2.2 and root my incredible.

Let's pretend I'm a 5 year old kid and have no idea what the hell ADB and NAND and all that other hoopla is. Can someone explain to me how to get 2.2 on my phone. I don't care about all the custom roms unless it has 2.2. I am a non technological person with a non rooted incredible.

This. But I recommend in step 4) to install FrankenROM. You can find it in the ROM section. It's based on the official EVO Froyo mixed with DINC specific stuff. It's pretty fine tuned...

I thought there was one Unrevoked, but the there are actually two Unrevoked processes? Does one do the S-off and the other roots?

Sad, I have BS in computer electronics and this process confuses me.... I need a schematic!

Perhaps I am too literal of a person and need more articulation... Yes, I am sad in the head.

In order to use rom manager, do you update the radio before hand, or does it do it for you in the options? That said, is rom manager better to use, AFTER the first 2.2 set up?

You can not do the radio if you dont want to, but depending on what rom you goto, certain functions wont work with stock radio.

ROM Manager is a great app, after you root, it installs the rom for you, so you almost do nothing. Rooting is 1.2.3 with unrevoked3

Does camera work with FRANKENROM if I don't update the radio? For some reason the radio thing makes me nervous even though you've all had success.

The only thing I found to not work properly (didn't work at all actually) with the 1.00 radio and froyo was gps-- everything else was fine.

Just go for the 2.15 radio update (if you have S-OFF via unrevoked forever)-- I went from 1 bar signal strength to 4 full bars in the same location after the update. It's as simple as placing a .zip on the root of your sd card and installing it from recovery. Takes 20 seconds.

Are you serious? This alone makes me want to root. I am scared out of my mind though to do it. I have been reading lately on here all about it (or so I think). I downloaded the unrevoked3 file but have been too afraid of actually following through with it.

Can I install that radio with just rooting and no custom rom?

I gotta take this 1 step at a time haha.

I'm assuming this is the proper order. What if I already have the OTA leak software update(not full Froyo)?

All over the place, just not in this area. I tend to wait for the early adopters to help weed the bugs and then I root I did the same for the G1

Yes, it's nice when people use the search feature; a fact of life is, it doesn't happen. Not to mention the search on forums isn't all inclusive and sometimes it's easier to ask the people who know. Please keep these types of comments to yourself and allow for those that are willing to help others some room to work. I for one, enjoy this forum a great deal specifically due to the zero tolerance policy enforced here.
